More About Coach Kent

Hi, my name is Kent Sato, I am a college student living in Syosset. I am a former Division 1 athlete on the Stonybrook Mens Lacrosse Team. I am offering private coaching for all levels of upcoming Lacrosse athletes. I offer all fundamental practices of lacrosse as well as breaking down key aspects of the game to help students understand positioning, timing, and when to apply their skills. I focus on offensive training and skill development and like to separate myself from other coaches by applying my own perspectives on how to reach the college level based on my own experiences. Please reach out or share with other families if you or anyone else is interested. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me on CoachUp. I hope to see you on the field!

I was recruited to the Division I Stony Brook Mens Lacrosse team in 2020. I have over 12 years of experience and have coached at the Long Island Lacrosse Academy. During my High School career I played in Varsity/JV since 7th grade and played in Long Island Travel teams including; Team Igloo, Team 91, LI Jesters, and Team Hitman.

I specialize in offensive training and skill development. I aim to help develop an understanding of how a player can perform on his own. I specialize in dodging and shooting and I aim to break down key aspects of dodging and positioning in order to become a dangerous player. In my experience, what makes a player great is their capability of getting into shooting range. Getting to that spot with your hands-free can not be something that you have to rely on your team for. A team full of great dodgers is a team that has no weak links. This is a team sport but in order for a player to develop past the high school level, you need to be able to perform well on your own regardless of the team. I want to share the skills and techniques that I learned and developed in order to reach the Division I level as well as key aspects that I wish I knew during my competitive years.

My Session Plan
Dodging: consists of dodging practices where I teach the important points of a dodge in order to break it down for players to understand. This is important to help a player develop their own skills of applying their moves in the game. I perform drills that will help convert these key points into muscle memory in order for the student to be able to react and adjust their dodges in real time to beat their defender. For example, breaking down a split dodge into 2,3, or 4 points and what to look for in your defender and what to react to. Ex 2: Developing sensory skills on where the ball sits in the stick (for possibly throwing fakes/ shooting)

Shooting: consists of drills that help students to understand angles of not only themselves but of the perspective of the goalie and what to look for when shooting. I will run drills to help improve your accuracy and speed while shooting still, or on the run. I will teach you how to build moments in your shot as well as the timing of when to shoot. This will then be practiced for muscle memory. If needed I will also be able to explain the physics behind a shot and how to string a stick to best suit your play style. ( this can include the physics behind throwing a realistic fake shot/pass)

My son is new to lacrosse and coach Kent does a great job simplifying things for him. After just his first lesson we saw a change in his game and his confidence

Kent was amazing at training my 15 year old beginner son in Lacrosse. He gave a lot of tips and tricks on how to improve his shot. In just one session my son feels way more confident and looks forward to working with Kent weekly throughout the season. So glad we made this decision.

I discovered Kent on Coachup, and he turned out to be an incredible find. Providing some context, my 14-year-old son expressed a strong desire to join the high school lacrosse team, despite having never picked up a lacrosse stick before. With tryouts scheduled for mid-November, I scheduled a session with Kent to teach him the basics, hoping to give him an edge during the evaluations.

From the beginning, it was evident that Kent possessed the right temperament, demeanor, and skill set to effectively teach my son. We ended up having around 8 sessions before the tryouts, and I was truly impressed by the remarkable progress my son made, witnessing a significant improvement in his skills.

During the tryouts, my son stood out, catching the attention of the coaches who immediately approached him. They were curious why he hadn't played the previous year, to which the answer was that he had no prior experience. My son secured a spot in the initial rounds of selections for the team – the same team that won the championship the previous year.

Thanks to Kent, my son's self-esteem has soared, and he's eagerly anticipating the winter workouts with the team. The season kicks off at the end of March, and we plan on booking more sessions with Kent, aiming for my son to become a starter. I wholeheartedly recommend Kent for his outstanding coaching skills!

Coach Kent is a great trainer. My son is a late bloomer to lacrosse and coach was able to evaluate his skill level to focus on the things my son needed to work on. His method in training various skills was a perfect for my son.

Honestly I've played lacrosse all my life but it makes so much more sense the way you break down the steps for dodging." ... "Like- it makes so much more sense on what I should work on when you explain how the ball sits in my stick
