More About Coach Kenneth

In 2016 I became the Aquatics Director and Head Coach of Longwood Aquatics, LLC and also Head Coach of Lyman High School. Prior to these positions I spent 6 years coaching with Patriot Aquatics, a USA Swimming Program located at the Lake Brantley High School Aquatic Center where I was also the Assistant Coach of the High School team. I have been a Coach Member of USA Swimming since 1985 and am a certified coach and member of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA), National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA), and United States Masters Swimming (USMS). I was also recently selected to the Florida Swimming All-Star Coaching Staff and US Southeastern Zone Staff for 2016, 2017 and 2018.

As an Age Group and Prep stand-out swimmer, I spent my childhood, teenage and college years in the pool either as a swimmer, instructor or coach. My swim instruction background began with several years serving both the American Red Cross and YMCA organizations in such capacities as Head Swim Instructor and Aquatics Director. During my college years at the University of Kentucky, I served as a Head Swim Coach for two different club teams and served 2 years as President of the Central Kentucky Swim Conference. I then went on to help form and serve as Head Age Group Coach to a prominent Lexington, KY based USS Swimming sanctioned team. With over 20 years of experience, I've coached state champions and record holders, junior national qualifiers and finalists, high school All-Americans and college scholarship athletes.

I left the coaching ranks a few years after college to enter the business world. Fast forwarding many years, when my oldest son began swimming a few years ago, I was reintroduced to a sport that I love. Shortly thereafter, I began what is now the second chapter of my coaching career. During the day, I'm still a business owner, at night, I'm Coach Ken. I live in Longwood, FL with my wife Abbey and 2 sons Bradley and Jackson.

When my schedule permits, I provide private coaching to younger competitive swimmers looking to refine their technique... as well as adult Master's swimmers and triathletes looking to improve their stroke mechanics, efficiency and endurance.

I was a standout Age Group Swimmer with the Cincinnati Marlins, considered to be the top program in the midwest and top 10 programs in the United States. My specialties were the 100 fly, 200 fly, 200IM and 400IM. I became a Junior National Qualifier & Finalist

Typical Session Plan:

Step 1: Assess skill level - Review all 4 strokes, turns and racing starts
Step 2: Introduce drills to address weaknesses in technique - focus on a progression of drills that work on learning or progressing the fundamentals of each stroke. Concentrate on body and head position and breathing
Step 3: Build endurance by increasing yards/meters each session
Step 4: Optional Video Recording above and below water to identify incorrect mechanics with strokes, turns and racing starts.

Client Reviews

Coach Kenneth is a great Coach. Really nice and patient. Loved my time with him and learned a lot.
He only has access to an outdoor pool so there were several sessions that were postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
Not an issue with Coach Kenneth but something I think someone signing up would like to know.

Very knowledgeable coach. We are looking forward to more sessions with coach Ken.

What a great experience! My daughter improved so much in one session! Thank you!

Coach Ken is awesome and quite knowledgeable with many years of coaching experience. We heard about Coach Ken from talking with other parents, who highly praised him for his coaching approach with young swimmers.

Our daughter is a freshman in high school, heading to districts in a a couple of weeks. We reached out to Coach Ken via CoachUp.com. He responded immediately and was able to coordinate a training session the next day. Within a couple of minutes after meeting with our daughter, he asked her what she was looking for from the training session. From that, Coach Ken knew exactly what she needed to do and gave her some pointers on her back, fly, and freestyle. He also fine tuned her strokes, flip turn, and start. She is now well-armed with quite a bit of information to improve her techniques. Now all she needs to do is put it all into practice. It will take some time & dedication to perfect the techniques he taught her, but he gave her some really good tips.

IMHO, having a resource like Coach Ken in CFL is a gem for anyone looking to improve their swimming ability. We are looking forward to additional sessions with Coach Ken for our daughter.

Very knowledgeable and professional my daughter really liked Coach Ken.

Coach Ken is a great choice if you want to improve your swimming technique. He is very experienced and knowledgeable. He quickly identifies what needs to be improved or corrected and explains it in detail. My 9 yr. old son enjoyed his 1st session with Coach Ken and we are looking forward to scheduling more sessions with him. Thanks Coach ken.

My daughter had her first lesson with coach Ken she learned so much today, a very knowledgeable coach with great rapport with the students
Can't wait to go back

I wanted to try out for the swim team at my highschool but I had no idea how to do any of the 4 strokes. I took four lessons with Coach Ken Cobb to atleast learn some of them. He gave me some really effective drills which helped me pick it up so quick. On top of all that, he was very patient with me and very encouraging even if I wasn't getting the hang of it. With all of his help I was able to make it onto the JV team and get bumped up to varsity as the season went on and even made it to districts. If anyone is looking for a swimming coach I highly recommend that you call Coach Kenneth Cobb.

We've only had one session with Coach Kenneth but it seems that he has an immediate plan for improvement. He is incorporating videotaped performance for further sessions including under water video which sounds very helpful for a swimmer. We are looking forward to our next sessions!

Coach, thanks for the great sessions this weekend. Jonathan learns more in a few sessions than 3 years from his HS coaches. Will let you know how he fairs at districts this week.
It is good hearing from you again! As I'm always in touch with Ligia and John Erick, I can tell you how much they appreciate all your support and good training, they both have the best comments about your experience, the way you direct and make yourself understood, and beside all the great human being you are. John Erick's interest was to improve the different swimming styles and be more competitive, which results he could experience in the recent swimming meet in Orlando among very good swimmers, and where he overcame his own scores.
