More About Coach Kelly
I have been coaching swimming for about 10 years and have experience with all abilitys and ages. In a typical hour session we work through the areas in which the swimmer is good and also where they could use some help. Depending on the goals of the swimmer the work out aspect on it varies. With my extensive time coaching I feel comfortable coaching all levels of swimming whether in the pool or on the dry land.
I have swam competitively for 17 years. I swam for a D3 school in Virginia and swam all personal bests! I improved each year as I learned more about the sport and athleticism needed to perform at my best. I hold a club record in Rhode Island along with two high school records in both the 200 free and 500 free. In college I was on the top 3 finishing relays for the 4x800 relay and placed 5th overall in the mile in 2009. When I was a freshman in college I suffered a major injury and missed the second half of the season. I think my all time major athletic achievement was to never let that one injury or those to follow ever stop me. I learned about passion and the heart I needed to have to keep swimming in my life.
Beginning Swimmers:
A typical 1-on-1 session would include becoming comfortable with the water and learning the basics of swimming. What I look to achieve is that by the time I am done with the swimmer they are able to accomplish things in the pool they were once afraid of or thought they never could do.
Intermediate Swimmers:
A typical 1-on-1 session would begin with a warm up of a basic 2 laps of the pool. Here I look just to get my swimmer ready and warm. Depending on ability level the next thing I work on would be drills where I am able to focus on technique. Each time I coach this level I like to focus on the aspects they do know but then again introduce them to newere things they may not. I finish this hour with a " hard" set which is where I help my swimmers challenge themselves, and for that they will always be rewarded.
Competetive Swimmers:
A typical 1-on-1 session with a swimmer in this group would be formed based around their goals. If they look to be a distance swimmer then we work on endurance if a specific stroke has their heart we work on that. In this hour I look to improve their ability as much as possible in order to get them at that competetive level they wish to be at.
