More About Coach Kathleen
For the 2015 track and field season, I held the position as the distance coach for the San Marcos Area Christian Competitors. SMACC is a homeschool association of middle and high school athletes. I prepared a training program for the 800m, 1600m and 3200m runners. In this season, the high school girls went on to win a State title of the TAIAO State Champions. The 16U girls also won first in their division, and one 16U girl was named 7th over all in her division.
I ran track for 6 years and cross country for 4 years. I was named cross country captain for my ability to lead and take charge of any situation. Being captain left me with great responsibility of leading practices and encouraging our younger runners.
Practices vary on event and day. I write a mileage goal for the week for each athlete and we do our bet to meet those goals at practice as well as when the athlete is training on their own. Every practice begins with agilities to warm up the body and prevent injury. Next there is either a run targeted at meeting the mileage goal or a speed training workout on the track. To finish up each athlete completes a mild strength work out to build a strong and able body and then lastly stretches and cools down.

Sheila Wray (Testimonial)
I would like to recommend Kathleen Shoemaker, as a running coach for your child. Ms. Shoemaker (known to most here as "Coach K") served as the cross-country running coach for our private school team, the Panthers, during the year 2014-2015. Her involvement with our school team was entirely volunteer, yet one would not have detected that by her total dedication to her role as coach. She held practices five days a week and never missed. She was an ever-present active coach at every track meet, bounding across the field to encourage every team mates at all events. Her passion for coaching is rivaled only by her passion for running. She shares her knowledge and experience with her athletes clearly and patiently and her character is marked by encouragement. She is a soft-spoken young woman, but to her athletes she clearly relays an expectation of hard work, commitment, and refuses to settle for excuses. Ms. Shoemaker would be an asset to any running organization. We wish we had the funds to retain her as a coach for our organization, but our budget is extremely limited. She gives 110% and any team fortunate enough to call her “Coach” is going to be motivated to reach their goals. Sincerely, Sheila W.
