More About Coach Kailey

I’m a former NCAA student-athlete, experienced athletics administrator, and coach with 12+ years of coaching experience working with athletes from Kindergarten through the collegiate level. I currently serve as the Assistant Director of Athletics and Head Basketball Coach at The Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City, where I oversee K–12 athletics programming while coaching basketball and volleyball.

My coaching philosophy centers around skill development, confidence-building, leadership, and helping athletes develop a genuine love for sports. I believe in creating positive, challenging, and empowering training environments where athletes can grow both on and off the court.

I have extensive experience coaching athletes at every stage of development, including:

* Lower School developmental clinics (K–4)
* Middle school and junior varsity athletics
* Varsity basketball and volleyball
* AAU basketball
* Individual and small-group skill development
* Leadership and athlete mentorship

In my current role at Nightingale, I lead basketball skill development programming for athletes in Grades K–12, including Lower School clinics focused on movement literacy and foundational skill development, as well as advanced off-season training for middle and upper school athletes.

As a former college basketball player at Bethel University, I understand the dedication, discipline, and mindset required to compete at a high level. My sessions focus on fundamentals, game IQ, decision-making, confidence, and creating an environment where athletes feel encouraged to work hard, compete, and enjoy the process of improving.

I specialize in:

* Basketball skill development
* Volleyball fundamentals and positional work
* Youth athlete development
* Girls sports development
* Leadership and confidence-building
* Game IQ and decision-making
* Beginner through advanced athletes

My goal is to help athletes become more skilled, confident, disciplined, and empowered every time they step into the gym.

I competed as an NCAA women’s basketball student-athlete at Bethel University, where I developed a strong foundation in leadership, teamwork, discipline, and competitive excellence. During my collegiate career, our team earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2015, an experience that strengthened my understanding of high-level competition and preparation.

In my senior year, I was honored to receive the MIAC Sportsmanship Award, which recognized my leadership, character, integrity, and commitment to representing the game in a positive way both on and off the court. That recognition continues to shape my coaching philosophy today.

As a coach, one of my proudest accomplishments has been helping lead The Nightingale-Bamford School Girls Basketball team to the 2026 NYSAIS State Championship. Winning a state championship reinforced the value of culture, accountability, preparation, and building strong relationships with athletes.

In addition to basketball, I have extensive experience coaching and developing athletes in volleyball and youth sports programming. My background as both a player and coach allows me to connect with athletes at all stages of development — from beginners learning the fundamentals to competitive athletes striving to perform at a high level.

Athletics has provided me with opportunities to lead, mentor, compete, and grow, and I’m passionate about helping young athletes build confidence, resilience, and leadership through sports.

Every session is designed to be high-energy, organized, challenging, and encouraging. My goal is to help athletes build confidence while improving their fundamentals, decision-making, and overall understanding of the game.

I tailor each workout to the athlete’s age, skill level, goals, and learning style. Whether I’m working with a beginner learning the basics or a more advanced athlete preparing for competitive play, I focus on creating sessions that are both developmentally appropriate and game-focused.

A typical basketball session may include:

* Dynamic warm-up and movement preparation
* Ball-handling and footwork development
* Shooting mechanics and game-speed shooting drills
* Finishing moves and scoring reads
* Passing and decision-making drills
* Defensive positioning and lateral movement
* Competitive game-like situations
* Conditioning and confidence-building challenges

For volleyball athletes, sessions may include:

* Serving and serve receive
* Passing and platform work
* Footwork and movement patterns
* Setting and attacking fundamentals
* Defensive positioning and communication
* Game-like reps and competitive drills

For younger athletes (K–4 developmental level), sessions focus heavily on:

* Coordination and movement literacy
* Basic skill development
* Confidence-building
* Teamwork and communication
* Learning through engaging, age-appropriate drills and games
* Developing a love for sports and physical activity

I believe athletes learn best when they are actively engaged, encouraged to compete, and given opportunities to problem-solve during training. I emphasize fundamentals, repetition with purpose, game IQ, leadership, and positive habits that translate directly into competition.

I also prioritize building strong relationships with athletes and helping them develop confidence both on and off the court. My coaching style combines accountability, positive energy, and detailed instruction to create an environment where athletes feel motivated to work hard, improve, and enjoy the process.

At the end of each session, athletes and families can expect clear feedback, areas for continued growth, and encouragement that helps athletes leave feeling more confident than when they arrived.
