More About Coach Julia

Hi Athletes! I am an NFHS Certified Coach with a lifelong passion for coaching/mentoring. I am currently a Head Coach at a top middle school girls program in the East Bay that recently completed an undefeated season.

I coach all ages and genders, however I am particularly good with female athletes who need some help building self confidence alongside their skills.

I am highly intuitive in understanding a player's capabilities and goals, customizing training based on each individual player's skillset and experience level. The goal is not only to teach them game skills, but utilize drills to strengthen the player's conditioning and body strength to be able to execute those skills safely and effectively, all in a challenging and positive environment.

I use a progression teaching technique that helps athletes acquire new skills quickly. For example it generally takes me 1-2 sessions for players to develop a left-handed layup.

My training space features a Shootaway Gun 10K shooting machine to train on shooting form, accuracy, and offensive moves through fast repetition and simulating the high cardio rate of in-game performance. I also have Blazepods and other tools to build conditioning and reflex. I believe we play the way we practice, so we must practice the way we want to play.

We will have lots of fun while challenging any limiting beliefs. If you want to be a good basketball player, then you can absolutely be a good basketball player.

While serious knee injuries prevented me from playing college ball as a youth, I fulfilled my dream by being recruited to play college basketball (De Anza) at the age of 41. This gives me a unique perspective of recognizing that you can do anything as long as you believe in yourself, are willing to work hard, and can recognize what your unique strengths are. I am a high IQ, multi-positional player who has played in competitive coed and women's leagues for over 20 years, usually taking the position of captain/coach, winning championships and earning MVP, Rookie of the Year etc honors. I am mostly known for my shooting ability.

All workouts are customized to the athlete, their goals, and what they need to be an effective basketball player.

I focus on using repetition to build good form and habits, while building strength and conditioning to be able to execute athletically.

I use a progression teaching style—if I see an athlete struggles with a certain move or fundamental, I will break it down to its most basic element, and then use progression and repetition to build it back up so they can execute with competence.

I am particularly good at improving shooting technique.

Client Reviews

Coach Julia helped my daughter with her ankle recovery and helped her gain confidence on court. With multiple reps every session she was abke to focus on small moves to improve her game and we are truly grateful for the training provided by coaxh Julia. Would highly recommend

Coach Julia is an exceptional basketball coach. My 13 years old daughter came home from training feeling motivated and inspired. Coach Julia is not only knowledgeable but also detail-oriented, patient and encouraging. My daughter learned so much in just one lesson and is now demanding more classes with Coach Julia, her favorite coach. We’re so lucky to have found Coach Julia.

Coach Julia is a great coach and extremely knowledgeable in all things basketball! After our daughter’s first session, she not only learned a new skill, Coach Julia was also able to recommended exercises to help our daughter with mobility. Our daughter had an awesome session and is looking forward to the next one. Highly recommend, thanks Coach!

Great coach! Son loves the 1 on 1 training, definitely will continue to see Coach Julie, highly recommend!

Coach Julia goes beyond teaching the game, nurturing personal growth and character development. Her dedication to instilling resilience, and confidence is truly what sets her apart. With an approach built on encouragement and support, she motivates players to work hard, grow and embrace challenges. Our daughter feels energized, inspired and ready to keep working after each session. Not to mention finally, a female coach for our daughter! We are so grateful we found Julia and know because of her, this is just the beginning to our daughters growth within HS girls basketball.

Julia is sure to take proper care of the athlete. Shooting machine was great!

Coach Julia taught me a few simple moves to get my shot off in games. Working with the shooting machine was really fun. My first session I made 35% of my shots and after a month was almost at 50%. It's exhausting but the machine makes a huge difference because you shoot so many times in an hour. It helped me be more accurate in games when I'm also tired!
Coach Julia was amazing with my high school age daughter. She never played organizational basketball due to the pandemic and didn't feel confident about her chances of making her high school team compared to more experienced players. We worked with Coach Julia over the summer with the shooting machine. My daughter's form improved within a couple of weeks and she was making more shots than missing. She began to move less tentatively and more athleticaly. The sessions even changed her attitude and she became more confident. She tried out for her high school team and made it, and is now playing AAU as well. We are so happy to have found Coach Julia. My daughter said Coach Julia is her favorite coach ever. As parents we appreciated her positivity and her message that believing in yourself is how you achieve your dreams. We had previously attended some of the local camps like Hoopsphere, but she improved so much more from a few sessions with Coach Julia than months of classes. Highly Recommended.
