More About Coach J.R.

I coached 2 seasons for stars baseball in Northern Virginia. I also gave private lessons for those 2 seasons as well. The teams I coached were 13U.

I played competitive baseball my entire life. In college, I played my freshman year at Centenary University in NJ and then transferred to the University of Mary Washington in VA where I played my Sophomore year. Junior and Sr year I took a finance internship and did not play baseball. I was all district in high school as a 3B/C.

I have 2 years of lesson experience. First - everything depends on the age of the player and where they are in their development. Its critical to assess each athlete for where they are with skill set. I have experience playing every position and while i didnt pitch competitively I was a catcher and believe that experience has helped me with pitchers as well.

Hitting- I will start each athlete with tee work to analyze their swing. from basics of staying inside the baseball to their setup I will analyze each aspect of their swing. I will then move to front toss. I will work on mechanics but also rhythm/tempo and being athletic.

Fielding- Im a strong believer in any younger athlete to play multiple positions. this will setup the player to be versatile later in life. Players will be put ina position with high school or college coaches where they are asked to move positions whether theres a sr athlete in their main spot or just asked to be versatile its critical to be athletic and be able to play multiple positions. infield work will start with the basics, i have multiple infield drills from tossing baseballs close up, working fore hand and back hand. working on having quick hands and working through the baseball. Ill have players throw to 1B from multiple positions and from different angles. OF work, I will work on tracking the ball. working on taking the best line to the baseball. and then work into hitting fly balls to them.
Running and baserunning- I will highlight the importance of being quick and being a good baserunner. my lessons are about being a better baseball player but also being a better athlete in general. for baserunning i will work on scenarios and teach the basics and how the bases should be run.

My lessons are to develop the players full game, not just one aspect. being an overall athlete and ballplayer will only help the player later on in their future playing high school and college ball.
