More About Coach Jovan
As a professional athlete, I was able to use my knowledge and experience to help other athletes in jumps events. I was helping younger athletes from my club and national team develop and improve technical skills specifically in high jump. I also held conditioning and weight room practices for high jumpers and long jumpers.
During my competition season, I would also help with coaching athletes of all age groups at jumps training camps. I would teach them basic components of training and introduce them to high jump and long jump technique.
I am also an assistant coach at Queens University of Charlotte and I am in charge of jumps group (high jump, long jump and triple jump).
During my athletic career, trough Serbian National team I have enjoyed competing at the high level competitions. I have competed on international level, where I gained rich international experience. These are some of my biggest and most important competitions: European Athletic Championship (2005, 2007), World Junior Championship (2006), World University Games (2007, 2009), first place at European Cup in Moscow, Russia (2006), 2nd place at European Cup in Ostrava, Chez Republic (2004), 2nd place at European Cup in Belgrade, Serbia (2010). I am also proud that I achieved B Olympic Standard for Beijing Olympic Games (2008) of 2.27m (7-5 1/4) which is my personal best in high jump.
I was also competing for Washington State University and Queens University of Charlotte in high jump. I was a conference champion and NCAA All American.
My training session would depend on athlete's experience.
For beginners or young athletes, the main focus would be on teaching them the proper technique of warm up, with all the sprint drills (low knee skips, high knee skips etc.). Teaching them proper way of running and bounding, which is a very good base for specific high jump or long jump workouts.
For advanced athletes, the main focus would be on improving technical skills by giving them a lot of specific exercises like drills over hurdles, plyometrics. We would work on developing speed by incorporating acceleration development and speed endurance workouts as well as resisted sprints and jumps.
Weight room session may be included as well as nutrition advice.
