More About Coach Joshua

I was the assistant JV basketball coach for one season at my Alma Mater, Junipero Serra High School. Most of my experience comes from skills training.

I worked at a facility called UPBasketball in Burlingame, CA where we trained athletes at all levels. I helper administer hour long classes weekly, with separate sessions for various age groups (K-4th, 5-8th, High School, College/Pro). I also trained clients privately in individual or small group settings.

I utilize my corrective exercise approach to teach proper body mechanics and I am currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy to integrate both sport and science in my work. I am a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and I also have a certification for the VERTIMAX equipment tool.

I played Varsity basketball at Junipero Serra High School where we played in a competitive West Catholic Athletic League against players such as the Denver Nuggets’, Aaron Gordon, and other D1 bound competitors.

I like to always start my sessions with “form shooting” directly in front of the basket. This allows me to assess how a player shoots and determine if they have faulty mechanics.

I have a wide range of both shooting and ball-handling drills that I’ve learned from my time at UPB. I can devise workouts very quickly and I know how to quickly modify a session on the fly in order to progress or regress a certain drill, technique, move.
I also like to defend and act as a defender in order to simulate a live game setting to get the player to train at game speed.

With the sport evolving at the pace it is, players are having trouble growing by being limited to their positions. That’s why my focus is on “position-less” basketball to make sure my clients are developing into players with a more complete skill set. Setting intentions is something I do before every workout with my client so that we are constantly playing with purpose and getting the most out of our workouts.

Client Reviews

Joshua was right on in his assessment of my son and the skills needed to process his game.

Look forward to working with him again.

Joshua made my athlete feel very comfortable, confident and I saw a major improvement in the 1st day itself. Covered every part of the game within the hour from defense to offense. Very reliable, on time, and friendly. Will highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a trainer. Worth every penny!
