More About Coach Joshua
I was a wrestling coach at Corona High school for 4 years at all high school levels. I also am an assistant instructor at Riverside youth judo and have worked with kids age 5-18. I've worked with some young adults at the Junior college level to help them at the higher levels. I'm comfortable working with all age groups and I am used to working in both single person and in group settings.
In high school I was the CIF champion at 182 lbs coastal division in the southern section. I had to beat the number 5 ranked in state to make it to finals. At the state level I was badly injured and only made it 2-2 with those injuries. I was able to get a Division 2 wrestling scholarship but ended up losing it due to injury and as such I decided to switch to coaching instead of competing full time.
While the specifics would vary depending on the needs of the client my typical session would be warm ups and stretches that help ready the muscles for wrestling motions, cardio, usually running or jump rope, then we would move into drills. There would be a lot of drills that work on improving fundamental skills the ensure that the client has a strong foundation to work off of. This would include working on all the basic attack and defense moves and movement drills to keep them able to stay moving. Then we would go into more technical work based on the needs of the client and on rotation so they can keep improving in multiple ways. If possible there might be a bit of live so that they can practice the moves in a more realistic setting then finally we would start cool downs and some quick stretches to help in recovery.
