More About Coach Josh

I am both an active coach and competitor in no-gi Jiu Jitsu holding rank of purple belt (IV). My classes (held at 10th Planet Burbank) are open to all belt levels. As a result I have experience working with both beginners and advanced students. Outside of my own classes I also assist with the children's Jiu Jitsu program. I conduct private lessons with adults, children, as well as parent/child semi-private lessons. I am passionate about not only increasing the physical ability of students but strengthening mindset and being a positive influence and supporter of all my clients helping keep their unique goals always in mind. This means each athlete is treated uniquely with their own custom programs.

While my expertise is in Jiu Jitsu, I also train and can bring elements from other martial arts including MMA, Mauy Thai, Boxing, and Wrestling into lesson plans. This is perfect for those interested in a more well rounded approach.

As a young athlete I played hockey and competed up to the junior level. As an adult I transitioned into my love for martial arts. Since the beginning of my martial arts journey I have competed in over 30 matches held at numerous tournaments.

Session plans are determined based on both the athletes level of experience as well as their own unique goals. Generally speaking, a beginner lesson will focus more on fundamental movements and techniques. For advanced students, and competitors, a percentage of lesson time will often be used more for situational strategies and troubleshooting.

General outline of a session:
-Warming up through Jiu Jitsu movements (Athletic movement, flow drilling, flow wrestling, etc)
- Technique
- Technique vs minor resistance
- Session close includes one or more of the following: (Rolling/sparring, situational live drills, cardio, troubleshooting, goals for next sessions)

Client Reviews

Coach Josh has been an awesome coach! He has been helping me with jiu-jitsu self-defense techniques and in just two sessions, I have learned so much. I have trained at another facility and I felt that there were gaps in the teaching there. Coach Josh has been filling those gaps and teaching me other useful techniques. If you are looking for a jiu-jitsu coach to help you up your game Josh can certainly help! Thank you, Coach Josh!!
