More About Coach Josh

Coach Josh was a four-year varsity basketball standout and a two-time All-League track and field athlete at Segerstrom High School in Santa Ana. He played AAU basketball with the Santa Ana Aztecs and now serves as their Head Skills Trainer and Head Coach of the 12U team. He trains athletes ranging from beginner, HS, adults, college and overseas Professionals as well. Coach Josh has also regularly trained star athletes who play for their National Teams in Germany, Turkey, and Australia, as well as Damian Lillard Elite 13u team.

Coach Josh was also a skills trainer for OC Magic Elite Basketball in Laguna Hills. He spent a summer playing with Los Angeles Harbor College in Long Beach, and played for Venice Beach Professional League. He is a USA Basketball Gold Licensed Coach.

Coach Josh was invited as one of the top 55 trainers in Orange County to Coach the 3rd grade level at the Ballislife Jr. All American Camp in 2015 & 2016. This camp featured 500 of the best basketball players from around the country from grades 2nd-8th. Coach Josh has trained all levels from beginner up to HS, College, Pro, He was invited in 2016 as an assistant trainer for the LA Clippers Summer Camp, and summer camp for Boston Celtics Center - Enes Kanter, and was invited to do a personal pro workout with the Warriors Trainers in Oakland along with his assistant Coach Charleston.

Each training session begins with a comprehensive evaluation to assess the athlete’s current skill level, movement patterns, basketball IQ, and physical readiness. This allows us to individualize the session and set clear development goals.

Offensively, we review game concepts and player roles, focusing on decision-making, spacing, and scoring options within a team system. Athletes receive shooting technique analysis and adjustments, emphasizing footwork, balance, shot alignment, release consistency, and game-speed repetition. Ball-handling work targets dribbling efficiency, control, and creativity, with an emphasis on attacking defenders and maintaining balance under pressure.

Defensively, we break down individual and team concepts, including defensive posture, on-ball positioning, help-side awareness, and closeouts. Athletes learn how to anticipate actions, move laterally with purpose, and defend without fouling.

Sessions also include video analysis to reinforce concepts, correct habits, and improve basketball IQ by studying real-game scenarios.
To support overall performance, we integrate strength and conditioning, speed and agility, and balance training to enhance explosiveness, body control, and injury prevention.

Each session concludes with take-home tips and drills athletes can work on independently, ensuring continued development outside of training and reinforcing habits built during our time together.
