Each lesson plan is tailored to the specific athlete, but we will typically start with an individualized warm up. For hitting, we will hit off the tee, working all sides of the plate. Working on hitting the ball at the correct depth for the pitch location. We will work personalized drills from there, then move into front toss. We will finish with live batting practice. Throughout the lesson, we will be discussing keys that have worked for me and discuss hitting theory to help understand the big picture.
For defensive work, we will begin with a full warm up, followed by a structured throwing plan to get our arms loose. We will dive into technical drills and work our way up to game simulated reps to put it all together.
For pitching lessons, we will begin with warming up our body, followed by a targeted throwing plan. While warming up our arms, I will be assessing direction, release point, accuracy, and other pieces of the pitching puzzle and actively giving feedback. Once we are warm, we will roll right into a bullpen. Just like hitting, power for pitching is derived "Ground Up", so we will be focused on enhancing our lower half and driving through the ground.
I take a holistic approach to all aspects of the game. There is not a one size fits all aspect to baseball, so we will pin point your player's weak points and devise a plan to make them strong points.

Coach Josh was great at breaking down the swing for our son. He was able to identify areas for improvement and starting working on drills to improve those areas. Great one on one time the entire lesson.

I have known Josh Anderson since 2023, when he began coaching my youngest son’s travel baseball team in Gulfport, Mississippi. During the spring of 2024, Josh was the head coach of that team, and he also gave private lessons for hitting, fielding, and pitching. Both of my boys, who are now nearly 10 and 14 years old, have taken lessons from Josh almost weekly since the summer of 2024. As a father of two boys who have loved and excelled at the game of baseball since they were each about five years old, I have spent a lot of time with them in different recreational and travel baseball organizations. If there is one thing I have learned in these baseball-packed years, it is that the coach is the single most influential part of a young athlete’s development. I have said many times, “I would rather my boys play on a bad team with a good coach than a good team with a bad coach.” Josh is the quintessential good coach. Good coaches come in different stripes, but what makes Josh stand out is the way he balances the nuts and bolts of the game of baseball against the reality of each player’s needs and abilities. Josh is not there to make your player feel good or bad. He is there to help your player pursue excellence (whatever that means for each player). Josh is not excessive in praise or criticism, but he uses those tools deliberately in service to player development. His approach and demeanor are very effective with players of all ages. Last summer, my boys and I came up with a plan to improve their hitting. Since that time, both boys have taken almost weekly lessons with Josh. Their progress has been impressive. Their swings have improved, but their increased confidence at the plate has been even more rewarding to me. We are sorry to see Josh leave Gulfport. When my youngest son got in the car after learning the news, he asked me (only half-jokingly) if we could follow Josh to Arizona to continue the work. Perhaps that is the highest recommendation I can provide for Josh. He is the type of coach we would move teams for (and my son would move across the country for). Should you have any questions about my experience with Josh, please do not hesitate to contact me.
