More About Coach Joseph

I am currently the Metabolic Specialist at the Lifetime Athletic in Westwood, Ma.

I was previously the Strength and Conditioning Coach at the US Coast Guard Academy and the Athletic Performance Director at the Connecticut Speed School. I worked with all active duty Coast Guard members and all the intercollegiate athletic teams at the academy. I have taught college level classes both at the academy and while pursuing my Master's Degree in Kinesiology at California State University Chico.

My personal interests (and strengths in the field) mainly involve weightlifting, powerlifting, kettlebell contests and strongman. That being said I have worked with a variety of clientele from "soccer moms" to long distance cross country runners.
When coaching, my focus is less on fancy new trends or complicated programs and more on teaching proper movement mechanics and helping you get more results with less effort.

- USA Weightlifting Level 1 Certification
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach with Distinction through the National Strength and Conditioning Association
- Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine

As a coach I have been successful in measurably increasing the average lifts and performance of the teams I work with. The football team at the Coast Guard Academy specifically was able to increase their average deadlifts, standing presses and vertical leaps consistently over the three years we worked together.

As an individual, I began competing in powerlifting as a young teenager and have been actively lifting ever since. I have competed in powerlifting, weightlifting, strongman contests and kettlebell contests. While successful in all of these events, the deadlift is my personal favorite with my best deadlift being 570lbs at 165lbs bodyweight.

A coaching session with me will differ from another trainer in that everything we do will be targeted towards your specific goals. Rather than trying to dazzle you with new exercises and the latest fitness trends, I will give you an individualized program based upon your goals and an initial fitness and movement assessment.

I will take the time to explain why we are doing what we are doing and help you understand the method behind the madness. My ultimate goal is to get you to the point where you no longer need my services and have achieved your goals.

In addition, I'll introduce you to a variety of technology that will help you accomplish your goals such as measuring Heart Rate Variability, barbell velocity and taking a look at your respiratory exchange ratio.

Client Reviews

Getting into weightlifting, and having never lifted before, I wanted to make sure I learned to do things the right way. Both to prevent injury, as well as to keep from having to "un-learn" bad habits. Coach Joe clearly knows what he's doing when it comes to training, and he took the time to go through the basics with explanations as well as demonstrations. He also showed me some resources to look into and went over nutrition questions. I feel confident now in my lifts, including deadlifts, squats, bench press, barbell rows, and overhead press. Coach Joe is great, and I recommend him. Will definitely be training with him in the future as I advance into oly lifts.

I have been weightlifting and playing football for several years at a competitive level. After my first experience with coach Joseph, I can conclude that his abundance of knowledge is self evident. His willingness to share this knowledge is even more admirable. I enjoyed working with him as he focused on the details of my lifts, which consisted of the power clean and front squat in the workout we did. His style of coaching through singular focus points, made it clear what I needed to improve on as well as pointing out what I was doing well. I look forward to continuing my training with coach Joseph, and learning as much as I can about the sport I participate in.
