More About Coach John

2017-2018 SIAA STATE CHAMPIONS “THE ROCK SCHOOL”

2017-18 USA Basketball Youth Development GOLD Coach Licensed Certified * For All Ages/Levels

Players skill development coach at The Rock School and Assistant coach of the 2017-18 SIAA State Champions boys varsity team. I have been coaching since 2004 (Assistant Coach for PK Yonge) where we went 11-3 after being 8-8 the season before. I also was an assistant coach for the Gainesville Elite USSSA Boys basketball team where we finished 4th in the state at the end of the summer. In 2009, I was the head coach of a 5 on 5 league in Gainesville, FL called "Summer Heat Wave" where I coached in the 16-19 age bracket and captured my first Championship as a Head coach.

Growing up I played for two of the BEST AAU Basketball teams in the state of New York City (Gauchos and Riverside Church). Then I played at a Preparatory School in Baltimore, MD (Gywnn Lake Prep Lakers) and played College Basketball in California at Glendale Community College before rupturing my Patella during a tournament.

My session plan will include stretching, warming up, drills (defense and offense), strengthening, conditioning, agility, and just EVERYTHING school coaches are not doing with student athletes or recreational players. My drive is to improve athletes individual abilities.

"My PURPOSE is to make another person have a PURPOSE"

In 1998 I was ranked 84 out of 100 with just a year playing competitive basketball. Through my years playing Recreational or in AAU competitions I have achieved 3 MVPS 13 Sportsmanship awards, Over 100 Championship trophies as a team, over 100 2nd Place trophies and probably about 25 3rd Place trophies as a team (We all must take a lost or come up short). As a coach I was a Assistant coach for PK Yonge Freshman team back in '04 where I helped the Head coach reach a 11-3 record from a previous 8-8 record the year before. In 2009 I got a chance to Head line a coaching position for the City of Gainesville "Summer Heat Wave" League (Spurs K.Y.D.A) where I (excuse my wording) turned "knuckle heads" into Champions at the end of the summer. That would be a Summer I would never forget, teaching, mentoring, building confidence, team work and individual growth for me and those young men.

No matter what position you play, in my sessions you will learn to become a positionless player. You will run post/guard drills so that you can understand all the aspects of the game I love so much. Sessions will include, Ball Handling, Hand/eye Drills, Defensive Drills, Shooting Drills, Passing Drills, Strength and Stamina Drills.

Client Reviews

Coach John clearly loves teaching kids basketball. My son loved his session and is looking forward to his next one.

Signed my grandson up for 2 sessions with Coach John. Per my grandson (13) "Coach John was very easy to talk to and I was able to explain to him where I struggle. He definitely helped my game and I recommend him to anyone who needs help or reassurance. Laces tight - hands up - shoot for the center of the ring. I hope to be able to sign up for more sessions." Coach John was very accommodating and personable and based on my grandson's enjoyment of the sessions, I also highly recommend him.

Coach was great for my daughter. He taught her so much that she can practice and get better. The advice and the reason behind why it should be done is valuable in her development.

Tks John for helping out my son! He enjoyed his 3 days with you and we look forward to hooking up again in February when we return for spring break. You are a great coach John! Thank you, Corey and Thomas from Canada

You can tell he loves this work and therefore is excellent at it. It’s amazing to see the growth in my son’s skills.

Nice Coach

Coach John is amazing, we feel lucky to have him coaching our boy. He has an incredible skill set and an ability to get through to my boy, so he understands. I see improvements in jack already.

Excellent Coach. I could see great results in my daughters basketball skills and confidence after just one lesson.
She is looking forward to further training with Coach True. He is obviously loves coaching and the game of basketball.

It is so fun to watch someone work who both genuinely likes what they do and is skilled at it. Coach John's methods are balanced an effective. He knows how to drive my son to work hard without pushing him so hard that he looses his love of the game. I cannot wait to see the look on my son's face when he plays his first league game and realizing how good he's become thanks to Coach John.

Consistent in teaching and is always prepared.

Great coach can’t wait to work with in the future

Excellent! My son really loves playing with Coach John.

He is a great coach. Really made my boys feel confortable. We will definitely continue to use him.

Coach John has shown the value of more conditioning and basketball technique to prepare me for varsity basketball. He's awesome!!!!!

My son and I was very pleased with the outcome of his first day of training.

Coach John is very passionate about coaching and it shows. He really cares about his clients and their growth and development. I consider it a blessing for my son to have the opportunity to work with Coach John. You will not be disappointed!

Coach John T is a great coach. my son learned a lot and he gave him a good workout just in one day.

Coach John was all business with a big smile! He came prepared and knew what he wanted to work on with my Granddaughter because he had asked us questions before the session. I could see improvement in her after the first drill he did with her. He talked her through each drill and teased her into working hard on each one. He gave her the reasons for what he was doing which made it make sense to her so she tried harder. We certainly recommend him even if you think you are a good player he has a lot to offer but come ready to work the full two hours! Thank you coach John!

Coach John was very helpful. He helped me with my shooting and dribbling, and helped me gain confidence when playing. Look forward to the next session.

Coach John is a great coach! He has a great knowledge of the game and his drills are top notch. Even though I only did one session, it was the best basketball workout I had in years, and I am definitely looking forward to doing more sessions!

Coach John is a great basketball coach. If your looking to improve any of your basketball skills he is great at helping you improve any of your weaknesses. John is straightforward in his approach as he keeps you motivated and will push your limits further and further.

Each day you wake up, make sure you perform any of the options to heighten your muscle memory as an athlete. Watch video of all of you made shots so that you can find your shot and master it. Use your imagination and play against a spiritual NBA superstar and give it your all.
Ball Slaps are important when developing ball handle.
My belief is that, if you're a A student then as an athlete you should approach every training session as an A grade student.
If you want to become a better ball handler then you must dedicate yourself to working on your handling EVERYDAY.
If you are not training EVERYDAY on your individual basketball game, Ball "is not" Life.... In order for you to say BallisLife and mean it you have to apply yourself to working on your game everyday at 100 percent.
To become a Elite Basketball Player you have to give all of your free time to training and perform with a purpose of wanting to be close to perfect as you can get. NO SHORTCUTS!
As a basketball player growing up in NYC I will have to say Above The Rim very good tips throughout that movie #instantclassic
The quality of your training dictates your growth as a Basketball Player
Clients ask me a lot "do you think I have potential?" if you put 110% into your training YOU HAVE POTENTIAL to become a better Basketball, Football, Soccer, Baseball, Softball or Hockey player.
