More About Coach John

I have 17 years of experience coaching basketball on the varsity and prep school levels, I have been a coach of a high school boys varsity program in Tennessee and Georgia. I founded and lead an organization called One Way Hoops. We do camps and clinics for athletes of ages 7-25. We also do group and private lessons for that age group.

I was an All State player my junior and Senior years in high school in Basketball. I was the Georgia private school player of the year in 1988- Naismith Award and also the WAEV 97 Savannah City Player of the Year. As a Coach I have won 566 games jv and Varsity during my career.

Intense. Alot of learning. Focus on a certain skill. All of our clients will recieve a notebook to work out of. We give them homework basketball to work on in their own driveway. We work on drills that will help them become a better player at their position.

My son has been working with Coach John to improve his ball handling skills. After the first training session my son, my husband, and I were sold! He’s teaching my son a lot. With every session I am even more impressed with Coach John’s knowledge. If your child wants to improve in basketball you cannot go wrong working with Coach John! I would recommend him to anyone, 100%.

Great coach!

My son had a wonderful experience w/Coach John. We were amazed at how much he learned in his first session this past weekend. My son is super excited about attending additional sessions.... he's been talking non-stop about it to our family and his friends ever since..... and that was just Day 1. Would definitely recommend Coach John to others.

Coach O’Neal is a great coach, he knows the game very well and has very challenging drills for the skill set, position you want to work on, or need to improve in. He does the drill first to show you how to do it and the right way then makes sure you do it right and improve on the drill and he sends the drills home for you to practice to improve by yourself.

John has been very helpful in skills and conditioning. He has been a great asset in helping my son prepare for the upcoming season. He is creative with skill building. Definitely a good investment.

I am very happy and proud of all of your efforts, work, and progress. You are doing an outstanding job. There is very clear positive evidence that you have created necessary positive cultural improvements. Great Job !
There were many challenges to face and you faced them head on! The kids played hard until the end and you coached hard until the very end and for that we are thankful and excited for what the future will bring now that you will have more time to develop the kids and the program. Mr. France and I schedule exit meetings with all our head coaches after the season; what’s a good time for you next week or the week after? Thanks for your time and dedication to the Freedom High School Basketball program. Robert Rego Athletics Director CAA Freedom High School
Coach O’Neal, It has been a pleasure watching you support our students. Having a winning attitude with a program takes time and hard work to build. I believe that there is a science to successful programs and it starts with dedication, desire and determination to win. These characteristics remind our students that you practice even when you don’t want to, you spend your off time on self-improvement, and you push/challenge your teammates to be their best all the time. Your passion bleeds these characteristics and it is important that your support system bleeds them too. I am excited about the future of boys basketball at FHS. Let me know what I can do to support you and this program. Cheryl
To Whom It May Concern: I have known Coach O’Neal for the last six years. He has been an exemplary high school basketball coach at Lancaster Christian Academy and now at the college prep level with Gabriel Christian Academy. His mentor Don Meyer- the winningest college basketball coach ever, has done a very good job with Coach O’Neal. He reminds me a lot of Coach Meyer, walking on the sidelines and telling his student manager to write things down so they can correct in the following practices. I was fortunate enough to coach with Coach O’Neal at LCA. Then I moved on to Victory Christian Academy in Valpo, IN. My Victory program emulates Coach O’Neals program at Gabriel and we won our conference championship this season. He is a believer in teamwork, toughness- mentally and physically, communication, and sacrifice. He thinks that a person on the team can have an ego but it better be a team ego. I think Coach O’Neal would be an asset on any level. He is a lifer at this game and has won by building solid teams through solid, simple, and sound relationships that are based on truth and respect. God Bless, Coach Derek Chirch Victory Christian Academy
To Whom It May Concern: I would like to take a moment of your time to tell you what we thing about Coach Todd O’Neal. Our daughter has attended a number of his basketball camps and played for him this past year at Lancaster Christian Academy. Coach O’Neal is disciplined and pragmatic in his coaching approach. He has challenged the players to grow while providing them the drills, tools, and experience necessary to advance to the next level. Another facet that we appreciate about Coach is the way he brings real life into the classroom. Using current events and important news, Coach O’Neal has given our daughter and the other students a bigger perspective on life and the importance of the role that God expects them to play. And finally we have found him to be very passionate about his coaching and teaching responsibilities. Whether it is his intensity on the court or his enthusiasm in the class room challenged to think through the issues and options. We appreciate Coach O’Neal and look forward to his lessons in life and the basketball court next year. Sincerely, Troy Reichert Chief Marketing Officer Straight Edge Marketing Smyrna, TN
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Todd Oneal for over 5 years. At first, Todd operated his One Way Hoops basketball clinics in our gymnasium at Memorial Day School. During that time, I received hundreds of comments about “how great this camp is”; “my child is having the best time and learning so much more than just basketball”, etc. etc. Everything was just so positive. It was clear that Todd Oneal was organized to teach basketball to any age or skill level and while teaching basketball, he taught about responsibilities, about becoming a better person and about perseverance. As the summer camps grew, I knew I needed and wanted Todd Oneal on my teaching and coaching staff at Memorial Day School and pursued him until I was successful. Along with Todd, we began to get inquiries about new students enrolling at school because they wanted to be where Todd was at. That’s an incredible compliment to who Coach Oneal is and what he is all about. Enrollment is done by parents and they want their children around a person of values and professionalism. Todd Oneal brought those personalities to the classroom where he taught health, economics, science and religion. He also brought them to the basketball team and we found immediate success. In his two years as Head Varsity Coach at Memorial Day School, Todd Oneal produced all-region and all-state players. His teams played with intensity and determination which resulted in final four appearances for both years. If you want someone that will deliver the best of basketball, groom your student-athletes on and off the court to be better people and better players, than I could give no higher recommendation than Todd Oneal. Very Truly Yours, MARK A. SUSSMAN Director of Development & Athletics Memorial Day School
To Whom It May Concern: I am writing this letter of reference on behalf of Coach Todd O’Neal. I have had the pleasure of working with Coach O’Neal for the past 9 months. Todd and I have coached basketball at The Habersham School in Savannah. Todd has also served as my Athletic Director. Todd is a fine, Christian man with the highest morals and character. He is extremely caring when it comes to his players. He has taught them so much more than the x’s and o’s this season. His teams play with an all out passion and pursuit of excellence. Todd coached the Varsity Boys Basketball Team and I coached the girls team. We spent many long hours on the road driving to games. After having spent so much time together I feel like I know Todd very well. I know that Coach O’Neal would be a great addition to the Pirate Athletic Department I feel extremely confident in recommending Todd O’Neal for any College Basketball Coaching Position. Sincerely, Coach Kim Godbee Glisson AASU Class of 1993
Coach Todd Oneal! You always pushed us to give 100% and you made me a better person and player! my love for basketball only grew from having you as a coach. I believe everyone whose had you as a coach feels the exact same! This is from Brianna Whittington- she was a player for me at LCA several years ago. I can still remember working hard in the garage. she would leave out of there red faced and tired, but she pushed herself hard. She was a joy to coach.
September 22, 2014 Dear Prospective Students, Basketball Players and Parents I would like to fully endorse Todd O’Neal as teacher and coach. I had the pleasure of watching Todd grow as a coach for 10 plus years. My son was on Todd’s rec league team starting in the 2nd grade through 5th grade. Later Todd coached my son for his four years in high school. During my son’s playing years, I had the pleasure of traveling on many “basketball” trips where I watched well over 500 games. There were a lot wins but more importantly than wins, there were a lot of “life lessons” with biblical principles that will carry my son through life for years to come. Todd taught that working hard, playing hard and reaching for excellence is actually a form of worship that pleases God. My son’s last game was for the NACA National Championship in Dayton TN. We won that game. It was both happy and sad for me. Our team had one the national championship but I knew my time as a “basketball Dad” was over. Todd correctly pointed out to the team that if they worked as hard as they did to become national champions at everything else in life, they will be successful no matter what they do. If you want your child to learn the game of basketball, discipline, good work ethics and have a foundation in Christ, Todd is your man. Best regards, Daryl Weiland
Parents with children aspiring to be great – not good! In 2010, my son and I went on an adventure to better his basketball skills for High School Varsity Basketball. See, my son wasn’t able to play any basketball in middle school due to a knee disorder. We were given medical clearance for him to play as a Freshman – but, needless to say, my son, Carson, was behind the curve on all basic skills. By divine favor, I found Todd O’Neal – OneWaySports on the web. We arranged for a review to see if Todd was what we needed and for Todd to evaluate Carson. I was immediately impressed with Todd’s ability to communicate with my son as a firm leader & a mentor. Todd began Carson a regiment that included skills, shooting, fitness, mental strength and classroom reviews. When my sons Freshman season began – he was the ONLY Freshman to dress and play. Yes, from NO middle school experience to dressing & playing as a freshman thanks to Todd and OneWaySports. We continued to work with Todd and Carson started every game as a Sophomore and Junior. He is now a Senior, captain of his team, being recruited by a few colleges and we owe Todd for the foundation he formed. These foundational drills and skills that OneWaySports taught my son are still used today during the offseason as he prepares for each year. Todd’s Godly foundation, his ethics, his abilities and his true love for his clients is unmatched. We have only one regret – Todd is now in GA and no longer in Tennessee. I sincerely recommend Todd O’Neal and OneWaySports. Bunyan L. (Les) Rudd, CPMR 4009 Barfield Crescent Rd. Murfreesboro, TN 37128
To whom it may concern: It is with pleasure that I write to you about Todd O'Neal, a candidate for the Head Basketball Coaching position. I have known Todd for twelve years and have witnessed his development and maturity as a person and as an ambassador of the game of basketball. Todd's zeal and passion for the game of basketball is unrivaled. He also has a natural ability and desire to teach from his experiences on and off the court. Not only is Todd well equipped to teach the game of basketball but also the importance of life issues. As I watched from the stands many clinics and games that Todd has coached, I easily recognized how his team constantly looked to him for approval and direction. Not once did Todd disappoint. With confidence he would put his arm around the young players and delivered firm instruction as to his role and objective on the court. Noticeably, his teams responded. In addition to various community basketball leagues, Todd and I have also played on a basketball team together for many years that ministers to men in prison. Todd is always a light to the incarcerated men and they immediately give their undivided attention to Todd when he is given the opportunity to speak. I believe that if Todd is given the opportunity to lead the Basketball team, the team, school and community will not be disappointed. Thank you for your time and consideration to Todd O'Neal as a candidate for the basketball coaching position. Travis Kring .
12/10/12 It is my pleasure to recommend Todd O’Neal for the position of Head basketball coach and camp director at your school. Todd was a camper for 10 years at our Bison Basketball Camps in Nashville, Tennessee on the campus of Lipscomb University. This was during the time period when we ran the largest basketball camp in the country. Upon entering college we hired him as a teacher coach in our camps. He did a great job as a teacher and showed an outstanding work ethic and love for the game and children. Coach O’Neal knows what it takes to market a camp, develop the proper teaching system, and supervise those under his command. He will be outstanding as a coach, leader, and as a camp director. Please call me if you have further question about Todd’s capabilities. Coach Don Meyer
To Whom It May Concern: This is my personal recommendation for Todd O’Neal. I first asked Todd to be a coach 10 years ago at my inaugural basketball camp. We are now 10 years later and have grown the camps to three weeks in Atlanta, GA and two weeks in Salt Lake City, Utah. I say this only because Todd has been a big part of the success of now sold out camps in both cities. Todd has brought a blue collar attitude with a knowledgeable base to my camps. Over the years I have had numerous conversations with Todd regarding his coaching philosophy. What I know is that Todd has a great basketball mind and knows what it takes to be a great coach. He listens when needed, takes notes when something important needs to be remembered, and has the desire not to be mediocre. I have been fortunate to be around great coaches in my time, 3 NBA Hall of Famers, and I notice that Todd has the tools to be a very successful coach. Besides being a pleasure to work with, Todd does a great job of not showing frustration while having the ability to get his point across in a smooth stern tone. I love his creative ideas and like more his ability to communicate them clearly when presenting a lesson. Grasping attention and having the ability to keep it is a great quality that I have found in Todd over the years. What I have found personally appealing is that I have been in basketball my entire life and there are drills and concepts I have learned from Todd over the years. Additionally, Todd truly cares about the kids he teaches and coaches. He really tries to connect in a personal way and truly cares if they learn. It is an added bonus that Todd not only teaches basketball, but life skills as well. He has a passion for basketball that is rarely seen and is very generous offering his time and services when needed. There is no telling how many players Todd has influenced challenged, and changed for the good. I run a very rigorous camp throughout the weeks and I find myself relying on Todd to keep it at my standards when I am away. I highly recommend Todd for employment. There will be no one that will work harder to achieve success in and out of the classroom. He would make a great asset to any school. Sincerely, Matt Harpring Former Utah Jazz Player- 12 year NBA Veteran, All American at Georgia Tech
