More About Coach Joe

I have several years of experience coaching competitive travel baseball in Orange County, working with athletes ranging from 8 to 16 years old. I've coached at the youth recreational and competitive travel levels, with a focus on players who are serious about developing their skills. My coaching has taken place across Orange County and surrounding areas, including private lessons, team settings, and small group training. I tailor every session to the athlete's age, skill level, and individual goals — whether that's fundamentals for a younger player or refining advanced mechanics for a high schooler ready to compete at the next level. I'm passionate about working with athletes who want to put in the work and see real results.

I grew up in San Diego, CA, playing baseball at the elite travel level before going on to compete professionally. I signed with the Baltimore Orioles organization as a pitcher, which represents the culmination of years of high-level competition and development. Competing at that level gave me firsthand experience with the standard of mechanics, mental approach, and work ethic required to advance in the game. While my primary focus as a pro was pitching, my background spans hitting and fielding as well, giving me a well-rounded perspective when I work with athletes today. That professional experience allows me to identify the small but critical details in your mechanics that make the biggest difference on the field.

Your response lists services but doesn't actually walk through what a session feels like — here's a version that answers the prompt more personally:

Every session starts with a brief assessment — I watch the athlete throw, swing, or field so I can identify what's working and where the biggest opportunity for improvement is. From there, we build the session around targeted drills that address those specific areas, whether that's fixing a mechanical flaw in the delivery, improving plate discipline, or sharpening footwork in the field. I keep things purposeful and focused rather than just running through generic reps.

For pitchers, I emphasize mechanics, command, and velocity development with a strong foundation in arm care and safe, repeatable throwing patterns. Hitters work on swing mechanics and approach at the plate, and fielders develop both the fundamentals and the instincts needed to perform under pressure. Every drill has a reason behind it, and I make sure athletes understand why we're doing what we're doing so they can self-correct on their own.

I offer one-on-one lessons, small-group sessions, and occasional clinics or team workouts. For youth and high school players, I also build longer-term development plans so progress compounds over time rather than stopping when the lesson ends.
