More About Coach Joe

Personal Training Background - I am the co-founder of Quick Touch Soccer Development (QTSD©); Columbus, Ohio's premier individual and team soccer training company. Over the past 10 years, I have worked with 1,000+ athletes; ranging from ages 4 to 18+ and experience levels ranging from beginner to collegiate & overseas academy (PSG/Barcelona). Our QTSD© training sessions range from athletes looking for new technical and tactical understanding (needed to begin competitive soccer) to groups of athletes & teams currently competing at the MRL/ECNL level looking for advanced development & collegiate placement. We also currently train club wide programs and teams; ranging from age u8 through u18.

TEAM COACHING - When not training QTSD© Athletes, I currently coach a u19G OSSL State team. They started six years ago in the MOSSL B Division and we are currently moving up the levels of competition each season. Having team coaching experience is important for a proper trainer; allowing them to learn how to distinguish between "flashy drills" (common in many personal trainers) and exercises that truly relate to the modern game of soccer (allowing for growth and application during games). Eventually, I plan on coaching a team in the ECNL/MRL level of competition but right now my passion & focus is personal athletic development for players in Columbus, Ohio.

One thing I have learned through my coaching journey is that great coaches have to have two qualities; be driven to constantly improve and be able to positively express their passion for the game to their athletes. Having a FIFA or NSCAA License does not guarantee success as a trainer/coach. There are many A license coaches that have proper knowledge but cannot properly reach athletes of multiple ages and different levels of experience. On the flip side, a trainer that refuses to take educational course is limiting their development; hindering their message to their athletes. A coach must be constantly evaluating their style and curriculum of coaching and basing that on the best programs in the world; not just what they know of US Soccer, playing history or professional playing experience.

That being said, I do currently hold the following licensure:

• QTSD© Coaching License (a requirement of all of our coaches at Quick Touch Soccer Development (QTSD©) to ensure consistency of coaching verbiage, curriculum and experience with athletes)
• LaLiga Formation Methodology Level 1 Expert (Spain Course) - Only coach in Ohio (and 1 of 17 nationally) to accomplish
• LaLiga Formation Methodology Level 1 (US Course) - Only coach in Ohio to accomplish
• LaLiga Formation Methodology Level II
• LaLiga Formation Methodology Level III
• United Soccer Coaches - Goalkeeping Diploma (Level 1)
• United Soccer Coaches - Futsal Diploma (Level 1)
• United Soccer Coaches - Urban Soccer Diploma
• FIFA D National License
• FIFA E National License
• FIFA F License
• FIFA Intro to Grassroots Program
• Ohio South Youth Soccer Association YMII

I am also currently receiving my USC National License and Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma this summer for additional education.

I have been around the game of soccer for nearly 30 years; starting at age 4. I played club soccer (Granville, Ohio) in addition to 4 years of high school soccer (Pickerington High School). I had the opportunity to play collegiate ball, but chose to focus on my education first (Bachelors of Science - Marketing and E-Communication). During that time, I continued to develop and play with multiple local semi-professional and amateur teams; constantly learning and improving my view & understanding of the game. I did have the opportunity to trial for a team in Germany, but a medical injury put that on hold; which pushed me towards my current passion of coaching and training.

Training sessions will depend on the goal of an athlete (or athletes). A typical 60 minute individual session will be broken down:

• 20 minutes of technical introduction (i.e foot skills, passing & receiving, juggling - all depending on the focus)
• 20 minutes of application (i.e. adding movement, receiving + new technical skill, etc.)
• 20 minutes of game related application (receiving, execution and transition to next step - i.e. receive, execute move, pass and combine to goal)

For small groups and teams, the added element of small sided and 1v1/2v1 will be added to allow for per appropriate pressure and game realism.

We have over 400+ individual training sessions already pre-created for athletes; covering every aspect of development a player will need to continue to improve. Additionally, we are constantly re-evaluating our training programs and curriculum to ensure they meet the demands of the modern game of soccer!

Been very happy with coach Joe. My daughter has already shown improvement. Coach Joe is very good at explaining what she needs to do and how to do it.

Joe is very educated when it comes to the development of young soccer athletes.
I highly recommend and will definitely use him in the future.
Thanks Joe!

"I like him better!" my child said just after one session. Coach Joe is positive, high energy and coaches in a easy to understand clear manner - all very important when working with kids. I highly recommend Coach Joe!

Coach Joe is a great coach! He cares about his players. After evaluating my son he explained to me and to my son every step along the way. He knows how to push my son and give him challenges that makes it fun and beneficial. I would definitely recommend coach Joe to anyone.

Coach Joe was fantastic! my son loved every minute. Actually, he was terrible...please don't sign up and take away his availability..j/k...You will learn so much with him.

QTSD©'s training with Joe and Nate over the years has helped me fill the gaps that club/high school soccer could not accomplish. I have been training with them for over 6 years and during that course, I have made my starting college varsity team along with my previous MRL club and high school teams. They are both very easy to get along with and make sure each of your training sessions is fun but extremely challenging. I highly recommend QTSD© regardless if you are at a novice level or a player at the top MRL/ ENCL leagues because they will tailor your training program to fit your specific goals and needs!
My coach at QTSD© has helped me to develop the confidence and skill needed to become a semi-professional and collegiate athlete. Every time I step on the field, I'm thankful for Coach Joe and Coach Nate giving me courage and improving the way I see the game of soccer!
My daughter trained with QTSD© to get her ready for D2 college soccer and to work on a few targeted areas. At the very first training session, my daughter and I knew that QTSD© was the answer! The training sessions were powerful in that Coach Joe taught my daughter the essentials necessary for college soccer from speed of play to finishing, provided valuable feedback and instructional excellence on improving her personal style and skill sets. It definitely shows that the passion for soccer at QTSD© is inspirational and really gives each player confidence to strive for excellence!
Both of our daughters, ages 10 and 15 train with QTSD©. We have found that it has not only stepped up their game on the field, but it has also given them a confidence to try new moves/ideas on the field. We believe in supporting the travel club that they play for, but this is definitely an add-on that is worth every penny! As each season progresses, our daughters' training with QTSD© has been what has set them apart from other players on the field!
Our daughters have worked regularly with Joe and Nate for 3 years, now. Their skill level and understanding of soccer has steadily progressed and improved. Also, Joe and Nate have taught our daughters about teamwork, hard work and discipline on and off the field. Finally and most importantly, Joe and Nate make training and playing soccer fun! We would highly recommend them and QTSD© for any soccer players looking for improvement!
I've been training with QTSD© Coaches Joe Pennell and Nate Booker for over 6 years! Each season, I've learned not only much about the game of soccer, but more so about how to succeed in life as well. Since my time working with QTSD©, my foot speed, reaction time and technical ability with the ball has improved a lot! What sets QTSD© apart is their ability to identify your areas of improvement and tailor your training sessions accordingly; truly focusing on you as an individual. My improvement has directly translated into more playing time with my respective Club and HS Varsity teams. I'm glad they've been able to contribute & watch my growth over the years and I look forward to the years to come with QTSD©!
I am so glad that I was introduced to QTSD© for my daughter. After 12 years of playing competitive soccer, she had developed some injury-causing bad habits. Coach Joe worked with her and has helped her replace those bad habits with solid techniques that have improved her game, built her confidence on the field and avoid injuries. QTSD© adapts their teaching style to match those of their students. My daughter is a visual learner and Joe was more than happy to demonstrate a technique rather that use verbal instruction. I only wish I had found QTSD© sooner for my daughter. Their coaching approach meets their students where they are; whether a beginner or advanced player. I look forward to seeing my daughter continue to improve her soccer skills with QTSD©'s training and enjoy playing the game that she is so passionate about.
Over the past couple years, both of our teams have enjoyed much game and tournament success while working with QTSD©. In addition to their superior training curriculum and delivery, I would add the QTSD© team has a way of connecting with each individual player exactly where they are and inspiring them to reach for their next level of individual development as well as team contribution. Additionally, every one of our girls earned a spot on their High School soccer programs while continuing to reach higher in their overall development. In my eleven years of coaching youth soccer teams, I have not encountered coaches more passionate about their work or a program anywhere near QTSD's level of effectiveness!
Of the myriad of soccer training programs out there, QTSD© sets itself apart from the rest. First and foremost, Joe and Nate are not only great coaches, but great people with an unparalleled passion for what they do. They bring an infectious joy and excitement to every training session and genuinely care about their players. Joe and Nate are consummate students of the game and have developed a very detailed curriculum that progresses from basic fundamentals, like balance and body position, through very technically advanced dribbling, passing, and finishing skills. They also help the players understand not only HOW to do the skills, but WHY and WHEN to use them, so that they become independently thinking, creative and confident players. Our daughter has been training with Joe for just over 4 years. The skills and confidence our daughter has gained through QTSD© have translated not only to the soccer field, but to her everyday life and school environments, as well. We are incredibly thankful and blessed that our daughter is part of the QTSD© program.
