Although Jim has an exceptionally high level of understanding about the physics and bio-mechanics involved in the golf-swing, he is able to explain those concepts to his students in an easy to understand manner. That combined with Jim's patience makes him one of the most sought after golf instructors in San Diego.

As a player I've not only won on all levels, but more importantly, I've lost at all levels.
I was a child golf-prodigy and learned to play by feel. That was good enough to earn a full-ride scholarship to the University of Arizona where I played competitively and went on to a solid professional career. It has taken years of research to discover what does and does not work and what it takes to be consistent and I want to communicate that to as many of my students as possible.

The first thing I do with all my students is review/explain in detail how to close the club face correctly, which provides the foundation for the rest of the swing. Then we work on the correct take-away, transition, and delivery into the impact zone. I then review with my students how the same technique of how to close the club face correctly is involved in the short-game (chipping & pitching) and then we work on the optimal putting technique.
Although I don't believe in 30 minute sessions, my technique/teaching plan is designed to give the student everything s/he needs in the very first lesson. For better-or-worse I'm not an instructor that wants my students to come back to me forever. I want you to know/learn exactly where your swing should be at each point in the swing so that you can be your own swing-coach.

Yelp - 5-Stars --- First off let me start by saying I have never left a review before for anyone - good or bad. I had to for Jim. I would recommend his training to anyone. I had never even picked up a golf club before, but thought I'd give it a shot. I contacted Jim and met with him for a lesson, the thing that impressed me the most was his patience and understanding of the do's and don'ts, while at the same time being able to show you your mistakes. He also gives you what you need to practice yourself, where you wouldn't have to keep coming back if you didn't want. I went from never ever swinging a golf club to understanding the golf swing. I am very pleased with this training, this short one hour has made me want to strive to play golf and better my game. Jim's skill and professionalism assured Mason a positive experience and provided a foundation for Mason to continue lessons with good muscle memory of correct club positioning. Yelp - 5-Stars ----- Jim is a great instructor with extreme diligence. He has a really good eye and can find out quite quickly the kinks that need to be made. He has great expertise for beginners and people with experience. After every lesson me and my wife took with him he would shortly post a video on line of our swing with details as a reminder for us to show our tendencies. You can really tell he takes the time and knows what needs to be done to help you succeed. His camera/ tablet on site is excellent to watch while swinging to see your swing in slow motion. He doesn't seem to mind answering questions and explaining the basics, and then explaining them again. This allows Jim (and the student) to view and make suggestions for better technique and results. Jim takes the time to help everyone. I was so impressed with the amount of patience Jim has, both with beginners and those who just want to improve their game. Yelp - 5-Stars ---- Golf was never my thing but now I really enjoy it thanks to JIm! I took his golf class through Grossmont Adult School in January and then again in March of this year - because I really enjoyed it and when you see vast improvements it gets addicting. Even though the class size can make it difficult to have enough attention from the instructor, Jim tries to spend some time with everyone. What I like best about taking Jim's class is that you start with the basics and then when you're more comfortable with your swing, he'll make it a little more challenging by adding an extra detail to focus on...which at the time you're like why didn't you tell me to do that in the first place-- but like always there is a reason why he does this. Jim wants you to learn why the ball goes where it goes and how to make it go where you want it to go. He works with you on every little detail and it's great that he has the patience to do so.
