I have been training athletes in the Annapolis/Severn Park area for over eleven years in strength and conditioning, along with speed and agility. My instruction is based on the principles of NSCA as a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS). I incorporate the exercises and drills that are the most conducive to the athlete.

I enjoy working with players of all ages and levels, but I especially enjoy the challenge of training teenagers, because with them I can make the biggest difference in their game and life. My specialties include footwork (speed/agility), explosive strength, overall strength conditioning, nutrition, and post workout recovery.

I start my sessions with a dynamic warm up, followed by footwork development, speed, agility, conditioning, and flexibility (during the cool down). I want my athlete to feel an immediate improvement in his or her overall conditioning!"

Find what works and stick with it! One on one personal training with Jim Cleveland works for me. A little over a year ago, I was part of a 30-person 'boot camp' program... I was struggling to keep up with the group, wasn't paying attention to form, and ended up with a torn ACL. Eight months and an extra 15 pounds later, a friend told me about Fitness Together in Severna Park. I was at the point where I was scared to exercise or run, afraid that I might cause further injury. I was overweight and depressed, which left me without the energy for my kids and demanding job. I didn't know where to start or how to get the nerve up to try and get back into a fitness routine. I gave Jim Cleveland a call at FT and the journey began. In a one-on-one training environment, with a certified trainer, I knew that the exercises I was doing were safe and that my trainer was paying close attention to my form to prevent injury. I learned how to run for weight loss on the days that I wasn't in the gym, using my heart rate as a guide to burn fat. From Nutrition Together, I learned that my lack of eating throughout the day and nighttime binges in the evening had my metabolism out of whack. In the six months since starting with FT, I've not only lost 10 pounds, 10 inches, and went from 24.7 to 17.5% body fat, but I've also trained for and completed a marathon. I work with Jim to set new goals every few months, and I know he's there to help me achieve them every time. Right now, I'm focused in losing a bit more weight in hopes of improving my run time for another marathon. Last year at this time, I would never have thought that this would be possible...
Last September, Rachel Neal weighed 170 pounds. As she kept trying to live the life she always wanted, she realized what was missing from her plan: accountability. Over a year ago I was searching for a place where I could establish a baseline for overall better heath. In the past, I worked out on my own at the local gym by taking fitness classes and running on the treadmill. I realized that I needed a change and signed up at Fitness Together in Severna Park! In a one-on-one fitness training environment, I knew that I was going to have the proper guidance to move towards my fitness goals. It really helped to have the flexibility in my fitness training schedule to balance out my professional work and family life. After the initial fitness assessment, Jim Cleveland was able to create and structure my regular training sessions, which helped me lose weight, increase my cardiovascular capacity, and gain strength. In 2012, my sister invited me to run with her in the Zooma Half-Marathon scheduled for January 19, 2013 on Amelia Island, Florida. I knew that I had to plan ahead, so I embarked on a four month running training program in order to prepare for crossing the finish line! Jim helped me integrate resistance training and nutrition with a regimented running schedule. This helped me run on schedule, recover adequately, and, as time marched on, grow in confidence! Fast forward to January 19, 2013 and I was ready, I started the race in cold and windy weather, but later on with the sun shining strong, I finished the race with a big smile on my face!
