More About Coach Jim

Professional Lacrosse Player: Major League Lacrosse (2009- 2016) Boston Cannons & Ohio Machine
* All-Star in 2012

As a coach:
For the last two years (2015 & 2016) Jim was voted in by his coaching peers as the "All-Star coach" for the MBYLL Select All-Star Game.

Jim's team also won the MBYLL Select Championship in 2016. (MBYLL - Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League)
(the team was all 7th graders playing against teams made up of 7th & 8th graders)

***Jim has developed a cutting edge coaching philosophy for teaching players how to score more goals. The actual "formula" is a secrete, but Jim's track-record is anything but quite!
His techniques and coaching methods can teach pretty much anyone how to score goals! - Year after year, and player after player, Jim's coaching process has proven extremely successful.

The difference? - Jim's training sessions are intentionally designed to develop a limited number of different skill sets. Jim has identified the 4-5 most important skills needed to score goals (customized to fit the player's age and level of experience). Jim then uses constructive feedback and repetition after repetition until the player masters each of these vital skill sets.

What Makes Jim a Superior Coach? - Jim always remains upbeat and positive, but it's really Jim's ability to breakdown the stick-work to a fundamental level and clearly communicate his coaching points that helps his players reach their full potential.

As a player:
*While playing in High School, Jim set the National Record for goals scored! - Yes, Jim scored more goals than anyone that has ever played Lacrosse in the U.S.
**Jim then trained the player (Grant Whiteway) who went on to break his National Scoring Record!
(neither Jim or Grant are big or fast)

College Experience - Umass (Amherst)
Division 1 All-American Attackman

Professional Experience-
Major League Lacrosse (2009- 2016) Boston Cannons & Ohio Machine
* All-Star in 2012

College Experience - Umass (Amherst)
Division 1 All-American Attackman

In 2015, Jim was selected as one of New England’s “Top 20 Lacrosse Players of All Time”
- New England Lacrosse Journal

High School - Jim scored more career goals than anyone that has ever played High school lacrosse in the history of the USA.
*Set Massachusetts record as a junior, and then the National Record as a Senior (524 points)

Jim also helped to train and mentor the player that eventually broke his record for goals.
Bottom line: Not only does Jim know how to score goals, he also knows the best way to teach someone else how to score!

College All-American (attackman) - UMass Amherst
In college, Jim made an immediate impact at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), becoming one of the team’s leading scorers as a freshman and helping to lead UMass to the Division 1, NCAA National Championship game. Jim was named to the All-American Team, First Team All-Conference (2X) and Conference Player of the year. He finished his college career by becoming the only player in UMass history to score at least once in every game that he played and was named “Mr. Clutch” by Inside Lacrosse magazine.

"As a coach, I understand that for a player to really respect my advice and implement my suggestions, I need to show that player results - Once a player sees that a coach is capable of helping them achieve their goals, that player immediately starts working harder and paying attention."

Coach Jim was great with my 11-year-old son. It was clear right away that he had experience working with players in this age group, and he made my son feel comfortable right away. Jim then brought my son through a series of shooting, passing and dodging drills that my son continues to work on at home. That is the best part about Jim's lesson: he has inspired my son to continue working on the skills on his own, which is something he hasn't done much of in the past. I would highly recommend Jim to anyone that wants their child to not only learn the important skills of lacrosse but also to be inspired to put in time working on those skills at home.

Jim connected with my son from both interpersonal and lacrosse perspectives. Over the course of one hour, his drills and tips have already helped my son improve his offensive production. Jim is also very responsive to scheduling requests.

Coach Jim is awesome! My son has worked with a few other coaches in the past, but none of them even come close to Jim. In just 1 session, I saw my son playing better than he has ever played and with a lot more confidence. Jim has an extremely impressive lacrosse resume and his ability to coach is fantastic. He utilizes a coaching method that is superior to any other we've seen. We look forward to continuing to work with Coach Jim and highly recommend him!

Coach Jim was awesome working with my son and was able to spot and correct several flaws as well as explain and drill in many new techniques. There was a ton of work and information crammed into the session so, there wasn't a minute wasted. I highly recommend Coach Jim and my son was very happy with the whole experience.

Jim is a true professional – he not only brings the experience of having played the game at the highest levels – he also brings the communication and teaching skills that make his lessons extremely beneficial for the player. My son, Connor worked with Jim for multiple lessons and I know the experience helped elevate Connor’s game to the point where he was recruited play in college. He’s now a starting attack man in his freshman year! I would recommend Jim to any player that wants to fully develop their potential and take their game to the next level. – Charlie Gaffney (Andover, MA)
Jimmy has been working with me for the past 4 years. He has significantly helped me with dodging and shooting. He is a great person to work on stick skills with. He is a great teacher, role model, resource and friend for me in lacrosse. Ryan McNabb 2015 Westford Academy and Laxachusetts
