More About Coach Jelena

After 4 years of coaching for the SprintWest Track Club, I have had the opportunity to be mentored by some of the greatest names in track and field. Some of those names include Shelia Burrell, Robert Cannon, Jeremy Fischer, and others. I earned my USATF Level 1 coaching certification and plan to complete my Level 2 this summer. I am very patient and communicate well with athletes ranging from the youth ages all the way to master's, with many athletes at the high school level as well. My athlete-centered programs promote education and success. I have learned and continue to learn some valuable things throughout my career, and I would love the opportunity to pass that knowledge on.

I began competing as a long and triple jumper 8 years ago, and have been a fierce competitor, a team captain, an MVP, a coach, and a motivator ever since. I focused solely on jumps until taking on the Multi events at the collegiate level for San Diego State University; this has expanded my knowledge into the worlds of jumps, throws, hurdles, and sprints as well.

A typical first session includes a functional assessment, goal-setting, and creating a plan tailored to the strengths and weaknesses of the athlete. We will focus on perfecting all aspects of the event/race, including speed, power, technique, and strength. WE will work TOGETHER to reach OUR goal.
General session plan: Event specific warm-up followed by neuromuscular training - Proper running mechanic drills - Event specific technique work - speed/power development through running -General strength - Recovery.

Jelena is a person I always call on for advice. This past season I began coaching at a new high school and she helped shape the success of my two new triple jumpers. Sophomore CJ Stevenson improved from 38'3 to 46'4 and fouled two 48ft jumps at the state meet. His sister Ciynamon, despite a foot injury finished her season ranked 4th in the US at 42ft. Both athletes began their season in February. Their improvements speak to her training principles and ability to maximize athletic effort.
