More About Coach James

I’ve been coaching for the past eight years off and on. I’ve coached everyone from youth football all the way to high school. I’m open to working with ages 7 and up. In the 2018 season, I was the running backs coach at Widefield High School. In my first season as the varsity running backs coach, developed our starting back, who a season ago, rushed for only 450 yards. This year not only did he break 1k in rushing yards, he’s received several college scholarships and plans to commit here in the next for months.

I played high school football at Cheyenne Mountain high school. At my there, I broke every rushing record in school history, and received several D1 scholarships.
I recently graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Communications with a minor in Business. I played running back for the Jayhawks under head coach David Beaty for the past few season. Taken what I’ve learned from D1 coaches, I decided the coaching is what I wanted to do.

Everyone’s different, and they will have specific wants and desires for what they’re looking to learn or improve on. That being said, every workout plan will start out with the athlete(s) doing a proper stretch and warmup routine. While that is happening, I can discuss to the parent/ Guardian what the objective will be and what I’ll be looking for through the session. Depending on the positioning of the player(s), we’ll start out with some agility drills that’ll fit their position. During every drill, there will be disciplinary/ mental training to help athletes learn to stay focus and be coachable through the workout. After that we’ll get into specific practices for their position. Followed by competition exercises that will push them as hard as they can even when they’re tired and ready to be finished. Finally we’ll wrap up with a cool down session, discuss how they did, and what to improve on for next time or on their own.
