More About Coach Jaliyl

I have been coaching Pop Warner Football since 1994. I've coached pee-wee, Jr pee wee, midget, and unlimited. I've worked with kids that have played QB for all levels including flag and mitey mite. I have coached in Newark Pop Warner, Central Jersey Pop Warner, and North Jersey Pop Warner.

As far back as I can remember I've been playing football. My career began in 1988 when I joined the Newark Pop Warner Football League. Once my career ended there I went on the play HS football. I played a little bit of everything TE, RB, WR, SS, LB, DE, but it wasn't until I got under center and became the QB that I found my true passion. I went to Texas Southern University to play but returned home due to personal reasons. It was then I began my coaching career as a special teams coordinator. Over the next several years I worked my way thru the ranks until I became the QB coach and offensive coordinator. In 2001 I decided to play again and became the starting QB for the Montclair Black Knights of the DFL. I played there for two years garnering Offensive Player of The Year honors as well as first team all league. I then retired due to injury and didn't play again until 2013 when a friend of mines convinced me to try out for an arena football team in Long Island called the NY Wolves. I ended up making the team and became the starting DE for them. Yet thru it all I always found the time to get back on the field to coach because I love sharing the knowledge I have with the youth.

I start every session with strength and conditioning training. It consists of some running and exercising. Then we do some light throwing to loosen up the throwing arms. We cover every aspect of the QB position from the QB center exchange to the positioning of your hand on the release of a pass. They learn everything from how to control the huddle to pre snap reads. I teach them what to look for while studying film. Every kid I teach is able to be successful in any type of offensive system they are put into.

Client Reviews

Coach Jay taught me so much about the QB position. I learned proper mechanics, how to make pre snap reads, how to look off defenders, and also improved my accuracy. He was a blessing for me and a pleasure to work with.
