More About Coach Jacob
I'm currently an assistant coach at a boys high school called DRS in Woodmere, NY. There, I coach students between the ages of 15 to 18, so grades 9 through 12. I also coached at a pitching performance center in Pleasantville, NY by the name of “Velo University.” There I encountered athletes of all ages performing at a range of skill levels. Some were as young as six years old, and others were professional baseball players in Major League Baseball organizations, or NCAA Division I athletes!
For the past two years I have been giving one-on-one private pitching lessons to student athletes, as well as group-lessons ranging from 2 to 50 kids at a time. As I am constantly seeking to improve my coaching, I’m currently studying to get my NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certification in general athletic training— I believe this will be an invaluable asset to my baseball teaching skills!
In my senior year of high school, at age 17, I was honored with the Nassau County High School Athlete Award for Baseball. I’ve since continued my career at the collegiate level, playing Division III baseball at Yeshiva University, where I’ve been named Pitcher of the Week multiple times. Alongside my amazing teammates, we not only work on improving our game-time performance, but our overall teamwork. I also ranked among the league’s top hitters with a .349 batting average and two home runs. In the summer, I had the privilege of competing in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL), one of the top summer leagues in the country, partially funded by MLB. Facing elite talent — including pitchers throwing over 95 MPH — challenged me to raise my game, build mental toughness, and sharpen my work ethic.
Selected to represent the ACBL at the NACSB Prospect Games at Liberty University and named an ACBL All-Star, I was competing alongside top players from across the nation. I'm grateful for these high-level experiences which helped shape me not only as a player but also as a coach. They’ve given me the knowledge, discipline, and perspective I now bring to every athlete I train.
As an athlete myself, I understand the more "old-school" approach that many coaches still use when working with players. However, I take a modern, individualized approach in my teaching. I use video analysis to break down each athlete’s inefficiencies and assign specific mobility work and drills to correct their movement patterns — ultimately helping them increase velocity. In addition, I tailor strength and lifting programs to help them be stronger and improve arm care (as a pitcher, I'm constantly reminded of the importance of this!). After the initial session, each follow-up session will focus on identifying and correcting their weaknesses. Because I’ve been in the shoes of the athletes I train, I know the process takes time! That’s why it’s crucial for a coach like myself to carefully observe the athlete and ensure they’re doing each drill with proper form to get the best results.
