More About Coach Jackie
I have lots of experience teaching and training swimming with all kinds of levels and ages. As both of my parents work as swim coaches (my mother teaching children and my father coaching professional swimmers until Olympics), I first started helping them out and learning from them back home in Germany. I then continued to have my own swim lessons each summer in hotels in Spain since I have been 18 years old. Since I moved to the US, I've had lots of private swim lessons. My personal experience and knowledge as a professional swimmer for over 10 years as well as my Lifeguard liscence are the basis of my teaching. I have had lots of one-on-one lessons but also small groups or bigger groups with up to 15 kids. I have worked with 3-to-70-year old athletes from water habituation to stroke or start/turn technique training.
Since both my parents have been swimmers and work in swimming now, I have always been in and out of the pool. I have been competitively swimming for over 13 years now. My biggest accomplishments in Germany were several State records and State Champion Titles, second place at South-German championships and several qualifications for German Nationals. In 2018, I started my collegiate swimming career at LIU Brooklyn in New York. During my 4 years of Bachelors, I trained 20 hours each week (17 in the pool, 3 in the gym) and improved a lot every year. My biggest successes in my senior year conference include 2nd place on the 50 Freestyle, 3rd place on the 100 Backstroke, several Prime Performer awards, MVP award for my team and a Spirit award for my effort, discipline and ambition. For my 5th and last year as a college-athlete I recently transferred to Florida Atlantic University here in Boca Raton. While doing my Masters here, I am part of the collegate swim team in the American Athletic Conference. My specialty strokes are Freestyle, Backstroke and Fly and my best events are Sprint.
Every client has different needs and swimming levels. For an individual that does not know how to swim yet the first step is to get comfortable in the water, learn breathing techniques and body positioning. After that, we continue with learning the breaststroke arms and legs movements individually before matching them together at the end. Specific drills I use for this are: blowing out in the water, kicking on your back, using a kickboard and pool noodle etc. For an individual that wants to work on their technique, we start the session with a warm-up and analysis of the stroke. After that, I provide the swimmer with multiple correctments and drills to improve their technique. We perfectionize those drills and then the swimmer can try to implement the new knowledge. Examples of drills are: underwater recovery, overwater recovery, sculling, catch drills; Examples of equipment used are: pullbuoy, kickboard, fins, paddles, snorkel
