More About Coach Ivory

I am a certified Level 1 coach with more than twenty five years of experience in track and field. My coaching style is based on the positive principle of striving toward excellence through continual improvement of one's mind, body and character. I coach from the ground up. If an athlete shows initiative, heart and a willingness to learn, our path forward will be certain. I enjoy working with athletes of all ages who are trying to attain a range of goals, from becoming more toned to running their first 5k, becoming more competitive in school sports or racing at an elite level. I consider myself a lifelong student of the sport and remain current on the latest coaching techniques to improve an athlete's technique and reduce injury. Although much of my experience has been in coaching student athletes, I have also held informal "boot camps" for their parents during team practices and enjoy helping adults attain their fitness goals.

As founder and head coach of a nationally recognized track club for the past 25 years, I have worked with more than four-hundred athletes who have gone on to compete and graduate from Division 1 schools. At least half of these athletes received All American honors. Two of my former athletes completed in the Olympic trials this year and one made it to the Olympics in the 110m hurdle semi-final. Over the years, our team has produced several Junior Olympic National Champions. This year alone thirty-nine out of fifty-one athletes qualified to compete in the AAU Junior Olympics in Humble TX. We came away with three first place national champions in the Youth Boys Pentathlon, 1500m and the 3000m Youth Girls run and, 16 podium finishes, nineteen All Americans and nine Honorable Mentions. Last year, twenty-eight out of 38 athletes qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics in New Orleans, LA. We produced one national champion in the 3000m midget boys race, one second place finisher in the 3000m sub-youth girls race, 11 podium finishes, 13 All Americans and nine Honorable Mentions. A couple of years ago, an athlete from our team represented the USA at the Pan Am Games in Trinidad. Prior to that, a former athlete of mine represented the USA at the Jr. Nationals when it was held in Italy. It is easy to highlight our team's medal winning performances as a benchmark for success, but I also derive enormous pride in helping hard-working athletes attain smaller, yet equally important goals of improvement on an individual basis.

I start my session with half speed warm up laps, followed by a stretching routine with emphasis of the quads, hams, adductors, abductors, and IT band and flexors. Then we do a series of field and technique drills, followed by a discussion of what we work on for that day, this is where I get their buy in and answer questions pertaining to today’s workout. We execute the workout plan for that day, followed by a barefoot walk, abs and arm drives. We have a mini positive conversation about that day and life in general, then we wrap it up for the day. I never leave without saying good bye to each athlete by name that's present.

Client Reviews

Had a wonderful experience with Coach Ivory my daughter is new to athletics and Coach Ivory had the patience and know how to keep her motivated and to not give up. She loved it and we can't wait to book another session. Thanks CoachUp

Coach Ivory is Awesome!!! My son has been in althletics for 9 years. I have meet a lot of coaches. By far he is the best. His knowledge of the body & how much it can take & the sport is amazing. My son is 14 years old & at that age they know everything (Haha) half way thru the session he told me mom he's good! Parents you want be disappointed!

First impression is coach Ivory knows his track, he taught us many different techniques to help improve my daughters long jump and he also helped out with shot put.

I can not put in words how impressed I was with Coach Ivory. He exceeded all my expectations. It was nice to find someone that had a passion for the sport like my daughter does. I'm so blessed to have found such a good trainer for my daughter. Very excited to continue with Coach Ivory!!!

I wanted to wait until my son had a few sessions before leaving a review. I found coach Ivory to be very knowledgable and I believe his experience will take my sons track performance to another level. I'm confident he's the right coach for us. He is easy to talk to and takes the time to listen to your concerns and needs as the parent and again for my son as the athlete. During my sons first session he mentioned seeing a chiropractor. He said my sons hips were out of alignment and he was right the doctor comfirmed this and showed me how his right leg was 1/3 of an inch longer then his left. He has also been pushing and motivating my son to think about more then winning 1st place at the next track meet. He wants him to think beyond that to his future in track and the possibility scholarships. It's these things he does in addition to the training that make him stand out as a phenomenal coach and motivator. Thank you coach for your time and great advice.

I will give Coach Ivory an A+ for my daughter's track session. The one word to describe the session is excellent. My daughter learned more in one session than she will learn in two years in middle school track. If your son or daughter has an interest in track, Ivory would be a great choice. He has a passion for the sport and does a good job of communicating all that he has to teach. I am so glad we did this session and hope to do many more.

After only one online session with Coach Ivory, we are very happy to have found him in CoachUp! We are very impressed with both his professionalism and his deep interest in our daughter´s needs. During the first session we noticed Coach Ivory´s holistic knowledge ranging from physical fitness and importance of strong core, to specific details on running and long jump techniques. Our daughter is so lucky to be training with him!!! Thank you Coach for being such a great mentor for our daughter!

Great coach! Two sessions so far. Very knowledgeable and supportive. Has a nice even-keel attitude and fun to work with.

Coach Ivory is an excellent coach. He incorporates drills that no other coach does and you feel challenged by the end of the training. I highly recommend him.

Coach Ivory did an excellent lesson with my son. He worked him hard in our first lesson and my son definitely learned a lot and is looking forward to his next lesson. If you are serious about improvement, I would highly recommend him!

Thank you, Coach Ivory!

I am very pleased with the training Jaiden received on last Wednesday.

You advised Jaiden on various running techniques, when she practiced with her team the following day, I noticed more confidence in her stride. She can’t wait until Saturday’s track meet.

I am especially appreciative of you advising me on the running shoe disparities, and recommendation. Although, we will continue our training with the Wings Club, I will most definitely book additional sessions with you in the near future. I will certainly refer you to others searching for private coaching.

Sincerely,
Rose E. Thurman

Coach Ivory has been extremely helpful in developing my son's track skills. It has given me great joy to see the patient for the love of track in my son again. After only two sessions with Coach Ivory my son runs everyday at practice now with much more confidence. I strongly recommended Coach Ivory's training sessions to anyone interested in learning more about track or looking to improve their skills.
The very next school track meet after the training sessions which Coach Ivory my son and myself saw a big different. His talent and skills had really improved. Also after the track meet what a big surprise that Coach Ivory called that night to see how the meet went. Coach Ivory is the Coach you want for your child. Thank you Coach Ivory for everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wyatt came home from the last session with Coach Ivory with a real sense of accomplishment and enthusiasm. The skills and strategies from Coach Ivory are making a difference and Wyatt is excited to see improvement already! Thank you Coach!

A quote by Coach John Bryant, on of the best track and field coaches in the nation and a legend in Texas track and field arenas: I was attending a Level I coaching clinic, and Coach Bryant was one of the instructors and guest speakers. The clinic was filled with many of the top name university, college and JUCO coaches in the nation. He said this young man has been coaching club track and field for many years. He spoke of how he and many other coaches in the area had benefited from his coaching knowledge. Then he said I want to recognize one of the best club coaches in the nation, Coach Ivory Kimble. I started clapping, unaware that he was talking about me. I stood up in amazement and acknowledge the group of coaches especially Coach Bryant. In that room were many coaches, that I felt were more deserving than I, but he acknowledged me. Wow. Afterwards he and I spoke. I told him that I never knew that he felt that way about me. He replied I have watched you for a long time and you have done nothing but teach, motivate, and lead these kids in a way that I have not seen before. He said to keep on doing what I was doing and he invited me to his home and gave me some track and field books which I use today. He said he would not be needing them anymore because he was going to retire that year. This great man chose me. I thank you Coach Bryant.
I like to keep improving, and we definitely do that. We learn a lot about life, not just running. We learn what’s important for school and getting ready to take the next step on the track.
Coach Ivory is hard working, and he wants all of us to be the same. He helps you off the track, but on the track he also pushes you past your limits. It’s very tough sometimes, but we know the hard work is going to pay off.
It’s fun but it’s hard at the same time. We do a lot of unique drills that I haven’t done before, and our workout schedules are made for our particular events. We all keep coming back to improve.
When Lindsey was healthy and running well, she learned a lot about technique and her events. But then after being injured, to see coach Ivory at the hospital was surprising. He truly cares about the well-being of all of these kids.
Ivory’s commitment to the kids and his passion for the sport is second to none. The overall performance of the program is terrific, and there are proven results from that performance. It’s a pleasure to be able to work alongside someone who truly is here for the kids and nothing else.
We’ve been looking for a program like this for probably three years. A friend told us about the [program], and we love it. Definitely a win-win situation. My son has challenged others in the past, and the coaches here have taught him to challenge himself and be responsible for his performance and results. My son has learned to make decisions that have a positive effect in the end. When he doesn’t succeed on the track, he’s upset with himself but is also determined to do better.
Dominique has already seen some success at the high school level. I just really enjoy her being pushed to her limit. They have great workout plans that are sometimes hard to get through, but they know if they finish, they’ll be better athletes. They’ve also learned about hydration and a proper diet.
Kalia ran with another program before this year, and this has just been a great experience. You have to give respect where it’s due. My daughter has learned things about technique, discipline as an athlete, driving out of the blocks and a lot more. Ivory has taught my daughter about having a gift and using it.
We wanted our children to be involved in something that could be beneficial in a number of ways. We found that with the [program] and coach Ivory. It’s just a great family atmosphere. The kids get great training out here, so it’s easy to come out here every night.
