More About Coach Ivan

I've coached at the olympic trials, US Open, colligate nationals, youth states, Fargo national teams, and everything in between. I love wrestling I love to help others get better at wrestling. Typically for the younger the student the more fun I try to make the lesson, the older the student the more tailored I try to make it to their goals which means higher level techniques. In either case this is a classroom of hard work, wrestlers are challenged to think about what they are doing. I'm pretty flexible and have developed several coached styles over the years to encompass every wrestlers I've worked with, from college heavy weights to youth 56lbs. I rely heavily on parent input the younger the student. Parents may not know wrestling but their know their child and that's my short cut to fast growth. As students get older they can tell me what they like or how things feel and we go from there. My special skills as a coach include reviewing film and breaking down each wrestler, scouting abilities ands styles and developing moves sets for them, motivational speaker, long term planning and development. I post a lot of stuff for free in my nonprofit Keepkidswrestling.com; find us on youtube, facebook, instagram.

National Champion at Notre Dame College
3x All American
D1 State Champion in Ohio
Stark County Hall of Fame
County takedown record
2x Ironman placer
Brown belt in Japanese jujitsu
Purple Belt in Brazilian jujitsu

My general break down outline is to watch 5-10 minute free drill take downs and turns. Student does what he likes and i watch with little feedback.
Afterwards we summarize the pros, cons, then pros of the what they already know like a bitter sweet sandwich.
Then we cover 1-3 moves that pair well with what they are already doing and/or body type and style.
For younger wrestlers we break with a wrestling skills game then water.
Then return for 2-3 moves or skills.
Then end with a version of live. This could be a wrestling related game or challenge, situational live, or simply a wrestling match.
We end with a summary of the day and i ask parents or students if they'd like to film anything before they leave to remember later.
