More About Coach Ira

I am currently a Head Varsity Basketball Coach with over 10 years of experience and have a broad range of coaching experience that spans recreational leagues, AAU, middle school, high school, and even college-level athletes. My coaching journey has included roles at Westlake Athletic Center (Austin, TX) as Director of operations, Texas Warriors Elite (AAU circuit) as head coach and Ast. Director of coaching and player development, and Hyde Park High School as varsity and subvarsity coach, Eagles Landing Christian Academy, Union Grove High School and PGC Director. I have worked with girls and boys and coached both Women and Men's teams at the High School level.

I primarily work with middle school, high school and college athletes but have worked with all ages from 4th graders-professional players, focusing on both skill development and overall athletic performance. I have NCAA coaching certification and I'm also certified in strength and conditioning, which allows me to design comprehensive training programs tailored to the needs of competitive athletes.

I played my college career at Reinhardt University. During my tenure at Reinhardt, I was a two-time All- American Academic and played all 4 years on scholarship. In 2014 I helped the Eagles achieve their first national Tournament ticket since 2003. I finished my senior year 8th in the nation in steals while shooting just under 60% from the field and 40% from 3. After college, I was fortunate enough to have a brief stint overseas in Berlin. Most recently, I was runner up for Region Coach of the Year and nominated for County Coach of the Year as well as overall Male sports Coach of the Year.

In a typical session with me, athletes can expect a highly focused and intentional workout that emphasizes fundamentals, attention to detail, and personal growth. I put special emphasis on defense and spatial awareness—two areas often overlooked but essential for success at higher levels of play.

Every session starts with a quick assessment of the athlete’s current skill level so I can identify strengths and areas for improvement. From there, I design a tailored workout plan that sharpens existing strengths while targeting growth in weaker areas. I break down the details—footwork, body positioning, timing, and decision-making—through specific drills that translate directly to game situations. I even break down film with many athletes.

I hold each player to a high standard, challenging them to push past their comfort zone. Whether we’re working on defensive reads, movement without the ball, or refining shot mechanics, my ultimate goal is to help every athlete reach their full potential through consistent effort, accountability, and smart training.
