More About Coach Hector

Hector Valencia was appointed the Offensive Line Coach at Juanita HS by Coach Lele Te’o in February 2016.

The 2017 season will be Valencia’s seventh year since 2011 coaching Offensive Linemen at the college and high school levels.

In June 2016 USA Football offered Coach Valencia an Offensive Line coaching position for the California U.S. National Team Development Games. USA Football recruited Valencia as an Offensive Line Coach (High/MS level) for their SEA Regional Development Camp May 2016.

Coach Valencia assisted on both sides of the line for Head Coach Shane Keck at Cascade HS in Everett during the 2015 season.

Valencia spent the 2014 season off the football field working with Community for Youth (CfY), a life-skills curriculum and community supported one-to-one mentoring organization that transforms high school students who are struggling – with school, with family, with their direction in life – into young adults who have confidence, determination and self-awareness. A volunteer with CfY is Dependable, patient, flexible, and most of all, has a relentless commitment to a young person’s success. Valencia was voted Mentor of the Year by his peers in 2014.

In 2013 Valencia was the Offensive and Defensive Line coach for the C-team at Juanita HS in Kirkland, WA. He was named to the Juanita HS football staff in 2012 as an assistant with the Varsity Offensive Line.

Coach Valencia’s introduction to coaching football came in 2011 when he arrived at the University of Washington and obtained a position as a football equipment manager working and interning with, Offensive Line coach, Dan Cozzetto. Under Cozzetto’s guidance, Valencia executed field set-up and take-down to run and execute pass and run specific drills. Moreover, he gained valuable knowledge on instilling exceptional fundamentals and film watching skills in student athletes during his time with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the University of Washington (UW) respectively.

In 2001 the Marine Corps initiated the Marine Corp Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) where he was trained as a Green Belt- Instructor.

2014 Mentor of the year: Community for Youth (CfY)
2002 United States Marine Corps: Meritorious promotion-Sergeant (E-5)

We will begin our session by covering the types of techniques on the line, identifying the "Box" and personnel, as well as talking general football vocabulary. The physical training session naturally begins with a dynamic stretch & flex warm up period. We then move into an EDD's (Every Day Drills) portion where we focus on the agility, footwork, pad level, and hand placement crucial to every football player's success. To top off our training we will work on different areas of Offensive Line specific fundamentals.

Hector has been doing a great job with my son on basic football skills. My son really enjoys it and he's learning a lot. I would highly recommend him.

Your performance at previous National Team events has presented to USA Football that you embody the same characteristics and values that USA Football believes to be critical for a U.S. National Team coach.
Overall I thought the session went really well. My son enjoyed working with you and I think it was the first time that he started to really get the defensive formations that you laid out. The next step of course is once he recognizes the formation that the defense is in, what that likely means for what he can expect based on the play the QB has called. But small steps :-) What you did in terms of leaving the cones out in a formation and going and doing an exercise and then quickly coming back to the cones, shuffling them around and testing him on the formation change was perfect. That repetitive reinforcement is key to him learning how to be a good offensive lineman and matches his learning style. Thanks for working with my son, and you never know, your first 1:1 student just might make the USA National Team :-)
