More About Coach Gregory

Golf instructors can focus so much on the endless technical points of the golf swing that they forget to teach their students how to actually enjoy the game. Both aspects are important to my sessions and they should be important to you, too — whether you’re aspiring to make your school team, participate in a corporate outing, improve a particular area of your game, or whether you're just itching to swing a golf club for the very first time.

What I don’t have to offer: Stuck-in-their-ways, standard, uninspired teaching methods of some golf instructors.

What I do have to offer: Knowledge of golf swing fundamentals; creative thinker; easy to talk to; will get right to the point and help you with whichever parts of your game are troubling you the most.

If you’ve thought about taking lessons but have been apprehensive — either about the high cost or the intimidation factor that can come along with some teaching pros — I hope you’ll consider trying a lesson with me.

Former golf instructor at a summer camp in Long Island, NY (children ages 7–13).

Full-swing coach, short-game coach (chipping, pitching, putting, reading greens, getting up and down).

**Starting in 2017, I will be expanding my teaching areas past Westchester County, albeit on a very limited basis. Please contact me about potential lessons in Manhattan, Queens, and Nassau County.

As we begin, I’ll ask a number of golf-related questions in order to best understand your individual needs and where you’d like to improve the most. We’ll craft individual sessions based on those answers, with the goal of steadily turning your weaknesses into strengths, thereby improving your scores and increasing your enjoyment of the game.

Drills can incorporate fundamentals with challenging games, making it easier for you to use the lessons out on the course, where it matters most.

Sessions can be on an individual basis or in small groups.
Sessions always provide encouragement and positive energy to the student(s).

I stumbled upon Gregory's profile on CoachUp while looking for a golf instructor online. I was new to the sport and needed a coach who was patient and willing to take on someone who had no previous golf experience. Gregory had glowing reviews from people of all experience levels and a fair hourly rate so I took a gamble and purchased the 5 lesson pack.

Right from the start I could tell Gregory would be a fantastic coach. Gregory had the unique ability to take complex golf concepts and break them down into simple, easy-to-follow instructions and drills. He was patient, very professional, and most of all a very skilled teacher. Gregory arrived early for every lesson, and would not end lessons until he was comfortable that we had covered all of the day's material -- in many cases going significantly over the allotted 1 hour lesson time. (Gregory will tell you upfront he does not track you by time, and he's true to his word).

Most importantly, and I think this is critical when you're spending hours with a stranger, Gregory was an all around cool guy to hang out with. We'd often ride the M35 back to the city together after the lesson and it was enjoyable to talk to him about life outside of golf.

Overall, I think the 5 lesson pack with Gregory was a fantastic deal and my only regret is not starting lessons earlier in the year to take advantage of the warm weather. I am definitely planning on picking up some more lessons once it warms up in the Spring!

I just finished the 5th lesson with Coach Gregory. It was a fun and fruitful journey to learn from Gregory. My improvements are tremendous. He is a true professional with excellent teaching skills. He can point out the weakness precisely and tell/explain you how to improve in very clear way. He provides detailed written feedback, which is very helpful to review, after each lesson. More importantly, Coach Gregory builds an excellent learning environment in which you will never feel frustrated. I also enjoyed the conversations with Gregory about the essential of golf. I feel so lucky to have such a great coach.

I am very happy with Coach Gregory. Why am I so happy? Here are the reasons why...

1. From the start he's people friendly. I tend to talk too much and he was able to teach at the same time.
2. Very professional. This is my first lesson and I've been playing for 10 years. He was able to immediately point out my faults and give me suggestion on how to improve.
3. I saw immediate improvements. At the end of the lesson I understood why and how I should improve. I'm going to the range and practicing. I'll write more after the second lesson.

Thanks Coach!

Coach Gregory worked really well with my 7 year old son. He took the time to understand his skill level and explained things in a way he could understand. He also was very good at identifying what my son needs to work on and provided excellent follow up notes to the lesson.

Gregory made adjustments to my game and the way my thought process flowed when thinking about the adjustments. Of the times I've met with Gregory I was able to incorporate lessons that progressed my game each and every time. Nothing including watching videos, advice from inexperienced golf instructors can substitute for a trained eye. Thanks Gregory!

Coach Gregory was a pleasure to work with. He was very accommodating on locations to meet up at and always willing to change things around if needed (my dog was even able to be a spectator)! The environment was always very relaxed which allowed me to feel very comfortable as a beginner. Coach Gregory was very helpful and positive in helping me tweak my positioning and stance. At the end of every session he went above and beyond to write an email follow-up on our lesson and provided me with great feedback. He would even use different literature and documents to support the topic. If looking for a golf coach, I would highly recommend Coach Gregory!

Great coach: attentive, punctual, great with kids and large groups. Would certainly recommend!

As novice players, my wife and I turned to Coach Gregory's help, and would highly recommend him to any golf starters as my wife and I are. Coach Gregory is responsive to my questions via emails before my sessions, and attention to details (e.g. pre-session questionnaires, watching out for weathers, etc.). He would send summary email after the session to summarize the key topics/techniques covered during the session and plan for the next ones. It was great fun to work with him and I can feel my skills greatly improved right after two sessions with him.

Gregory is nice, patient and always well prepared. He spent every session identifying my weaknesses and showing me helpful techniques to improve. We developed my grip, improved my short irons/ long iron game, and fixed my stance, among other things. Importantly, It is difficult to remember everything learned in each session, but Greg's provided summary emails after each class to highlight the key lessons learned.

Coach Gregory is an all around nice guy. Very accommodative for times, places and super responsive to messages.
The price was excellent and our sessions primarily focused improvement of the short irons.

I would 100% recommend him for a high handicapper like myself.

As a novice golfer, I had a lesson with Coach Gregory before a scheduled round of golf.Of course we could not cover everything I needed to know but he was able to help me with my basic swing and gave me some tips to keep in mind in the short game and putting. I was able to channel what he told me on the course that next round.

This was my first time using CoachUp to find a Golf Pro to help with making some adjustments with regards to my swing. I was a bit apprehensive prior to meeting Coach Gregory not knowing much about him as a coach and a person. To my surprise, he did a wonderful job helping to critique my swing and approach on the course. I have already made future plans to work with him a bit more at the driving range, and plan to take that lesson back to the Golf course once again. Would re commend this gentleman to anyone looking to improve period!! In a side note, is a person to have a good down to earth conversation with which is very important to me when playing with someone on the course. Great job Gregory and thank you!!!!!!

I really enjoyed my first lesson with Greg. I noticed an immediate improvement in my chips, and I’ve already scheduled a second lesson with him. In fact, the lesson was so good I told him he should raise his rates!
