More About Coach Gary

Sports Performance Coach Gary Young has a career spanning over twenty years. He has worked with professional athletes at Olympic training centers in America, Korea, and China. He has served as a head coach and director for the Texas-based Ultra Quest Sports Training performance camps, coaching hundreds of junior-level athletes for baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and track & field. Gary has served as a coach for the Aspen Basketball Academy, the Conley Soccer House, Reebok CrossFit, USARIEM (Warfighter Health and Performance), and the Tennis Academy of China. In 2020, Gary was the private performance coach for China's Female Olympic Weightlifting, coaching China's leading four women, who went on to win two golds and a silver medal in the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. Coach Gary’s athletes include national champions, China’s Four-year National Games gold medalists, and four Olympic Gold medalists, in track and field, tennis, weightlifting, and speedskating. Gary Young is NSCA CSCS certified (#200424029) and USATF certified (#L1.10.6080).

Today, high-level sports performance depends on two foundations: 1) The Sport-Specific Skill (like hitting a tennis ball or shooting a basket) 2) The Foundational Athletic Ability - Sprinting, Jumping, Quickness, Explosiveness, and the ability to do all of these efficiently and without tiring. A tennis player may have a beautiful swing and perfect placement, but they will not be competitive if they cannot hit the ball hard and cover the full court with speed and stamina. Sports Performance training is: Building an Athlete.

I use a comprehensive approach to BUILD ATHLETES by focusing on:
1) Sprint Mechanics
2) Full-body Explosive Strength (RFD - Rate of Force Development)
3) Hip and Spine Posture (Biomechanical Efficiency)
4) Abdominal Stability and Strength
5) Aerobic / Anaerobic Fitness Economy
6) Optimizing Recovery Through Eating Habits and Sleep Habits
7) Long-term, Progressive Training Programming

A seventy-five minute session will include:
1) MOVEMENT PREPARATION AND MOBLITY
2) SPINE / PELVIC CONTROL
3) EXPLOSIVE FORCE
4) MUSCULAR DEVELOPMENT
5) POSTERIOR CHAIN / CORE
6) LPHC FLEXIBILITY (Lumbar-pelvic-hip Complex)
7) AEROBIC / ANAEROBIC CONDITIONING

Your program will be personally designed to your age, your sport, and your fitness level.
Every session you complete will be carefully recorded and intentionally progressed.
If you have an injury, we will train around the injury and include rehabilitation exercises.
Location: We can train at your preferred gym or at an agreed upon local gym or facility.

Client Reviews

I have known Gary for over 25 years, and have had the pleasure of watching him train and coach athletes in both camp and scholastic settings. Through his interactions with these athletes, I have seen firsthand Gary’s dedication, compassion, encouragement, professionalism and reliability. Above all, I have seen Gary personally and professionally invest in his athletes with great care and with a holistic approach to help them to be the best they can be. Gary Young cares for the overall health, wellbeing and goals of his athletes. As a coach for Ultra Quest Sports Training and Ignite Athletics this was clearly displayed in the individualized time he took to get to know and understand his athletes. I have watched Gary work to build bonds that created an additional level of trust, which allowed for healthy growth in a positive environment. His caring manner and enthusiasm towards all those under his leadership and instruction demonstrated Gary’s heart for his athletes and passion for helping them be the best they could be. Gary is clearly committed to the care and wellbeing of those he coaches. In his role as a volunteer track & field coach with Ignite Athletics, Gary brought a diverse holistic knowledge to the program and his athletes. His ability and desire to look at and train the whole athlete is a significant strength. Through a well-rounded knowledge and experience, coupled with his desire to continually learn as he strived to better his athletes, Gary was able to assist in improving overall athleticism, which resulted in healthier and more competitive athletes. As a personal friend and a professional colleague, through which I have become well acquainted with Gary Young’s character, competency, and capabilities, I give my full, unreserved recommendation for Gary Young.
I am writing this letter to recommend Gary Young for the position of strength and conditioning coach. Gary worked for me during the spring and summer as a strength and conditioning coach when I did a major study for the Army on the effectiveness of different physical training programs. He did an excellent job. Not only was he very knowledgeable about strength and conditioning methods, but he was an excellent motivator. He put in hours beyond his paid time to engage the trainees in activities that both helped motivate them and challenge them physically. The training results were excellent and the subjects made major improvements in all the physical performance tests we administered to them both before and after training. I have no doubt that Gary was able to get the trainees to work harder and train more effectively than most other coaches would. The fact that Gary has taken up speedskating and made great progress in a relatively short time reflects Gary’s ability to design effective training programs to improve performance, and his commitment to achieve a goal no matter what time and effort it takes. I am certain that you would do very well to hire Gary as a strength and conditioning coach. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail. Sincerely, Everett Harman, Ph.D., CSCS, NSCA-CPT Military Performance Division U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine
It has been my privilege to know and work closely with Mr. Young for about six years now. He has been a great asset to our Aspen Basketball Academy Camps as our Fitness Expert as well as our Camp Strength & Conditioning Coach. He has also been a great asset to our Wt. Training & Fitness classes at Aspen High School and our entire athletic program. As the ABA camp director for this high potential camp, I can assure you that Gary has done an amazing job. He possesses great knowledge of his subject area, has the ability to relate well to others, is both motivational and inspirational, and leads by example. Gary is a man of great character that I would trust with anything. He is a great friend and a wonderful human being. A former star athlete himself, he has chosen a profession he is passionate about and will be incredibly successful at. I cannot think of a better person for your Strength & Conditioning Coach than Mr. Gary Young. He gets my highest recommendation of all. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or e-mail me and I will be happy to speak with you. I promise, Gary is a choice that will make you proud. You can’t go wrong.
