More About Coach Gabriel

I have been coaching basketball for 20 years. I train ages 5 and up male and female. I currently coach at the Atlanta International School.
I am an American Red Cross certified CPR and First- Aid trainer. (Your kids will always be safe with me!)

One of my most memorable accomplishments happened in 2003. A young man was cut from the school's Junior Varsity team and came to me and stated that he wanted to get better. I told him to give me one year. Within that year we worked hard on learning the fundamentals of basketball. The next year he not only made Varsity, but was a part of the Starting Five!
I competed on the college level at Spartanburg Methodist College as Small Forward/Power Forward.
As a 6’8 powerful rebounder, I received the “Chairman of the Boards” certificate in my Freshmen Year.

As a Martial Artist and black belt, I understand the importance of discipline, which is essential in life as well as sports. Therefore I take the same approach in my sessions.

From being on time, (typically 10-15 minutes before the session), being ready to start (fully dressed), to not leaving early without an acceptable reason.

At the first session, I will ask questions to learn what the athlete wants to accomplish and their expectations.

At the second session and each session afterwards, I will have a coaching plan so that the athlete and parents will know what we are going to work on and the progress being made.

A typical session starts with deep breathing to clear the mind of anything that will impede the learning process.
Next, cardio, to warm the muscles and kick start the cardiovascular system.
Then stretching to protect the muscles.
From there we would go into core strengthening exercises. Having a strong core is the foundation to excel in sports.

Afterwards, we will discuss several different drills. I explain how to do the drill and what the drill does for the athlete. I also demonstrate how to do the drill, so that the athlete can see it.

After drills, I teach techniques. (How to become an effective scorer, how to properly box out, how to attack the defenders lead foot etc...) These techniques will vary depending on what the athlete needs to work on.

Lastly, we will review everything that was discussed. I ask if there are any questions. I review the next session time and date.

These sessions will be intense so I do not have set water breaks, however, the athlete can stop and hydrate whenever they need/desire to.

Gabriel is a good coach for me

We attended many basketball trainings and had many other basketball coaches before. I can honestly tell you that Coach Gabriel is an excellent coach. He communicates with my kids very well and teaches them by examples and show them what to do and what not to do. He always well prepared for the training sessions. Coach Gabriel understands that a development of young basketball player must include basketball skills as well as strength & conditioning of a basketball player. My kids enjoyed and learned many new basketball skills and techniques that I saw them use during a game.
