More About Coach Evan

I began my coaching career with NJB, coaching recreational basketball for boys/girls ages 10–11. Shortly after, I expanded into individual skills training, working with young players to develop their fundamentals, confidence, basketball IQ, and overall game.

Earlier this year, I took the next step in my coaching career by joining OGP Corona, where I currently coach a 14U girls travel basketball team at the AAU level. This experience has allowed me to work with athletes in a more competitive environment while continuing to develop my approach to player development.

As an individual trainer, I have primarily worked with boys and girls between the ages of 12–15 (can train outside of this age range as well), with sessions focused on areas such as ball handling, shooting mechanics, finishing, footwork, conditioning, and game-specific skills. I typically conduct training sessions at various 24 Hour Fitness locations and The Draft Sports Complex in Corona, California.

My experience across recreational, travel, and individual training environments has given me the opportunity to work with athletes at different stages of development and tailor my coaching to each player’s individual needs and goals.

I played Division II NCAA collegiate basketball and had an overall decorated career from an individual standpoint:

Colony High School - Ontario, CA
- Division IA All CIF-SS 1st Team (Sr. Year)
- Division IAA All CIF-SS 2nd Team (Jr. Year)
- Mt. Baldy League MVP (2010)
- Riverside County All-Star Selection (2010)
- San Bernardino County All-Star Selection (2010)
- Colony HS Male Student-Athlete of the Year (2010)

Chadron State College - Chadron, NE
- Nebraska Division II Player of the Week (2013)
- 2x Chadron State College Athlete of the Week

Every session I run is personalized to the athlete. I start by identifying each player’s strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement, then build our workouts around what will help that individual player develop the most.

My training philosophy starts with fundamentals. I believe strong fundamentals open the door to everything a player can become, while weaknesses in those areas can eventually put a ceiling on their development. Because of that, sessions typically begin with fundamental work such as ball-handling warmups, form shooting, footwork and ladder drills, finishing technique, and other foundational skills.

Once those fundamentals are established, we progress into more advanced, game-specific training. Depending on the athlete, that may include change-of-pace and change-of-direction moves, shooting off the dribble, finishing through contact, creating separation, decision-making, or performing skills at game speed and under pressure.

Repetition is also a major part of my approach. I want players to perform skills correctly enough—and often enough—that proper technique becomes second nature. Building that muscle memory allows athletes to play with greater confidence and react naturally instead of having to think through every movement.

Ultimately, my goal isn’t just to put players through drills or give them a tough workout. It’s to understand where each athlete is in their development, strengthen their foundation, and progressively build the skills they need to become a more complete and confident basketball player.
