More About Coach Erik

I am a Certified Natural Running Coach and Board Certified Holistic Health Counselor. I am a member of the Natural Running Network and owner of NaturesWay Running and Health. My focus is on Heart Rate Specific Endurance training for runners, cyclists, and triathletes along with helping runners transition to a more natural form of running in order to reduce the risk for injury. I work with all age groups, from high school Cross Country runners to Masters marathoners.

Certified Natural Running Coach, Board Certified Holistic Health Counselor, competed in numerous local 5k's, 10k's, and half marathons. Currently in training for Sarasota Half Marathon.

Each session is tailored specifically to each individual athletes needs. My programs are a minimum of 6 weeks in duration as I have found this to be a reasonable timeframe to impart new habits and to insure understanding of my training concepts. All athletes begin with a Video Gait Analysis to identify areas in need of improvement. A VO2 Max test is performed to identify metabolic shift points and proper heart rate training prescription. Individualized training plans are written dependent on the athletes short and long term goals.

I set a new weekly mileage record this week thanks to Erik. I would not have done the mileage that I did had it not been for the encouragement that I received from him. I rode 446 miles last week and that really beat my old record of 404. I want to thank Erik for all his wisdom in helping me to prepare for my 150 mile bike ride, his endurance guidance has been invaluable to me.
I want to share how much I appreciate Erik Horton and his training techniques. July was a rough month for me trying to get in regular rides, let alone actual workouts. August has proven to be much friendlier with kids back in school. Erik was instrumental in helping me prepare and successfully complete my 100 mile ride in June. I've continued to glean instruction and guidance throughout the summer. I have had a few weeks now to be able to do an actual schedule of workouts and they've been AMAZING! I'm having a blast working hard on Mondays, kicking back on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 mile sprints on Wednesdays and endurance rides on Fridays. My Saturdays and Sundays are filled with family time. I know the plan that Erik has me follow works!! Last Wednesday my 1 mile sprints average pace was 8.7 while this weeks was 10.9. Thank you so much Erik for believing in me and sharing your talent with me. I LOVE how you train me.
I just ran my first 5k! What else needs to be said? In 2 months I went from not being able to run 1 lap around a track without feeling winded, to running a 5k without a worry. Thanks Erik for all of your amazing coaching! We didn’t work together for a long time but we did have a fun time. Your love of running is contagious and for that, I’m truly very thankful.
I hired Erik to work with my son who is a very good high school cross country and track runner. He has aspirations of competing in college and beyond. My initial reason for considering Erik was based on my concern for my son's health. He runs all year long and I had concerns about injuries. I had been hearing a lot about Natural running and after discussing it with Erik he made it clear to me that this would help my son for a lifetime of healthy running. The training has helped him improve his race times significantly, and 'knock on wood' he's been able to stay injury free as well. However, what I did not expect, and I believe is the real difference maker, is Erik's ability to connect with my son as a coach and mentor. Anybody with the knowledge can teach the mechanics, but Erik goes beyond that to connect with the person. I realized this by how upset my Son was when Erik told him he was moving to Florida. I would highly recommend Erik for any runner, but especially if you have child that is serious about running.
