More About Coach Emily

Over the past 8 years I have been teaching dance in addition to actively auditioning and performing. Throughout the past 5 years I have specifically been privately training competitive dancers, rhythmic gymnasts, and ice skaters, in addition to beginners who are too intimidated by a group ballet class setting. I have experience working with children as young as 18 months to adult with varying levels. I currently have my BFA in Dance from the LINES Ballet Program at Dominican University of California.

I grew up training in classical ballet from a former American Ballet Theater soloist/Boston Ballet principle dancer under the ABT curriculum. In college, I was a soloist for Fresno Dance Collective, a contemporary dance company based out of Fresno, CA. In undergrad I transferred to Dominican University of California to train in Contemporary Ballet under the Alonzo King LINES Ballet program. After school, I moved down to Southern California to accept a position in the Entertainment Department at the Disneyland Resort performing in multiple show offerings throughout the year. I am a former Disneyland entertainment performer, am currently signed with Go 2 Talent Agency, teach dance in the surrounding Orange County area, and am a stretch therapist at Stretchlab.

Each lesson is tailored to individually meet the needs of each client. Most dancers have something they specifically want to work on but when beginning to work with a new client I like to take a look at their form and placement. From there, I emphasize the importance of correct form and then once that is correctly addressed we move on to specific goals. In general, we would begin a lesson with a warm-up, technique, and then start moving and dancing focusing on the clients goals in addition to what I believe is also necessary.

Client Reviews

Great instructor, very knowledgeable, energetic, and fun to work with.

Coach Emily is amazing with children. She is like a Disney Princess in dance clothes! My son is on the spectrum but likes dance and needed help for a dance competition. Emily is excellent with children. On days when my son was having a bad day she was warm and empathetic and was able to get him excited to for his dance lesson. She was always positive and upbeat. She was able to roll with the punches. Emily helped us to create a routine and helped my son learn the routine. I would recommend Emily to any parent who needs one on one coaching for their child!

I am a full-time mathematician and (part-time) concert pianist who has seen a fair share of ballet dancers while I accompany various dancers in China in top companies. I tried Ballet with Emilia completely by chance since I was transcribing Tschaikovsky, Stravinsky, and Prokofiev's orchestral works to piano solo work and learning the dance pieces by Bach (French Overtrue), Chopin (Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante), Debussy(Suite Bergamasque), (, and Stravinsky (Petroushka) in my next recital, and my piano teacher suggests me to understand how the dance is performed to understand more.

I am completely surprised by how well the course goes. I had believed that a man my age (33) would perform like Jimmy Kimmel and Guillermo with Misty Copeland (https://youtu.be/R_F4wV314kM). However, it went much better than I thought. By the end of the second class, I can already try to follow the full Barre.

Coach Emily's teaching styles remind me of some of the most outstanding teachers I had the pleasure to work with, especially Prof. van der Vaart (my mentor) and Mastero Mikowsky, both world-renowned for their contribution in their fields and excellent teaching styles. Basically, this teaching requires an in-depth understanding of the field, the ability to break down any technical difficulties into minute details and point out the path to improvement. As a part-time lecturer at Tsinghua University and Peking University, teaching mostly Ph.D. students, I do not give that compliment lightly.

I would whole-heartedly recommend Emily to anyone interested in Ballet to take her class.

Totally helps with muscle pains, tightness! My constant back pain is getting better! I can't live without Emily! My body is feeling better and I'm able to get back to surfing!
I had my first class with Emily and was impressed by her knowledge and skill set. I immediately signed up for a series and I suggest if your on a journey to recover from lower back issues and overall muscle and joint pain she's the pro!
