More About Coach Earl

I have been giving private basketball sessions in the Los Angeles area for over 17 years. I am a basketball shooting precision coach and trained with the Worlds Champion Free Throw Shooter, Dr. Tom Amberry, for over 12 years. My coaching is based on principles that are proven, and those that I have learned through coaching since 1987. I have coached AAU (Youth, High School, and College), and high school basketball. I am an advocate of the multi-flex and triangle offenses and pressure defense. My basketball shooting sessions begin with free-throw and three-point shooting evaluations. Players are videotaped so that they are able to see their technique before and after. Traditionally, players that I have trained improved their free throw shooting percentage beyond 90% within 30 days. I have trained several players starting at ages 10 through 18 that have gone on to become Division I and NBA basketball players. I also provide conditioning workouts which include sand dunes and stair training. Players have reported improving their jumping height 6" to 12" inches after a summer of conditioning.

Pasadena City Seniors age 50-54 free throw and three-point shooting champion. Personal best of 126 consecutive free throws without a miss. Made 300 of 309 in one hour. Thirty consecutive 3 pointers, per day, no misses.

My session plan includes an evaluation of free-throw and three-point shooting. Players are taught key steps required to achieve mastery of the free throw and three-point shots. All shooting mechanics are defined from principles of alignment, balance, and stability (ABS). We eliminate wasted time accumulated from players shooting with incorrect or improper technique. Then we focus on making the proper adjustments to correct the problem. "Some players just shoot them." We shoot them to make them.

Client Reviews

Coach Leonard is a superb coach that has a keen eye for each athlete and their learning style. I am very happy with our first few sessions and plan to continue to build on this for my b-ballers.

I sought out Coach Earl after struggling with my jump shot while playing in an adult league with co-workers. I hadn't had any formal coaching in 20 years, and within 2 sessions Coach Earl helped me greatly improve my shot by revisiting the fundamentals and getting rid of some bad habits that formed over the years. He also taught me an extremely reliable free throw routine that now has me shooting over 80% consistently. Coach Earl is very knowledgeable and I would recommend him to anyone looking to improve their shooting ability.

I felt like I got a lot out of my first lesson with Earl. I enjoyed his scientific approach to shooting.

Need more work on 18' shot. Need same arch and back-spin on every shot. Should shot release be in front of face or above eyes?

My 8-year-old son took part in the clinic given by Coach Earl and really loved his instruction! He is experienced, prepared and student-oriented. We booked a 10-course package after the clinic and hope that my son can be more confident not only in playing basketball but also in his way of doing other things.

Excellent Teacher. Nice affable personality. Prepared, Patient , detailed and meticulous.

My 9 year old son had his first session with Earl last weekend and he really enjoyed it. I'm very optimistic that we will see improvement in his shooting and ball handling in time for his next tournament. I've already booked more sessions.

I booked three sessions with Coach Earl as a birthday present for my husband who used to play a lot of basketball (up to Italian second division teams) when he was younger and still really enjoys playing although he doesn't get to do it as often.. He absolutely loved Coach Earls sessions - actually said it was his favourite birthday present ever ;) He got an amazing conditioning workout every time, learnt an entirely new free throw technique and received lot of feedback. In three sessions his free throw average already improved a lot. He actually loved Coach Earl's training so much that he's wants to continue with weekly sessions. Would highly recommend Coach Earl: a great coach, very responsive on scheduling etc and always there on time - he's the real deal!

Coach Earl had been working with my 14 year old daughter to improve her free throw shooting and overall shooting accuracy, confidence, and consistent higher level of play. Coach Earl has been positive, patient, and detailed in his teaching method and system to help my daughter improve. He is always on time and has been flexible and made himself available to meet our available schedule. My daughter is showing improvement after a few sessions. We continue to be happy with Coach Earl and the training received.

Coach Earl is coaching my ten year old son on shooting. My son's free throw percentage has increased dramatically with just a few lessons with Coach Earl. Coach Earl works great with my son, so I would highly recommend him to coach younger players. He can analyze a player's shot and give instruction on the proper form. Coach Earl teaches Tom Amberry's (Tom Amberry holds the record for consecutive free throws made) technique of free throw shooting, which I believe works!

Coach is the real deal. It's like working with an NBA coach. He's the best I've ever had.

His goal is to teach you to make every shot. Barriers that you have created are limiting your performance. He exposes players to there barriers in shooting. Then teaches you how to overcome. Whether it’s mental or physical, this coach can help you solve your problem.
