More About Coach Douglyss

I am a USATF Level 1 Coach with 4 years experience coaching competitive kids and high school track and field athletes. I specialize in sprints, middle distance and horizontal jumps (long and triple jump). I do not coach the throws or high jump. I have taken one young female athlete from beginner to winning a silver medal at the Bay State Games in long jump. I have also coached 2 Middlesex League All-Stars in the triple jump. Most importantly, I am not just a "trainer", I am a coach. There are many good trainers here that can teach skills and prescribe workouts. Coaching also requires the ability to build belief, motivation, and habit in the athlete.

I ran track in high school and college, and continue to train and compete today in events from 800m to ultramarathons, trail races, and multi-day stage races.

Any training will begin with an understanding of the athlete's current abilities and goals. Sessions are typically broken into 3 sections -- skills development, event training, and strength training. It is important to break any event into the necessary skills, and to constantly build those skills. Event training focuses on specific workouts for that event. Strength training is necessary not only for developing muscles for the event, but for injury prevention.

Just one lesson so far and very helpful. I’m a complete novice and just running for the bus hurt. I sought out Doug to help me develop proper form. It may take some work, but I definitely came to the right place.

Coach Douglyss was great with my 13 year old daughter!! My 15 y/o daughter met with Coach Doug to get help with her LJ and TJ. His approach was excellent, breaking the entire workout into key components. Warmups, run through, drills, and video work to understand areas for improvement. He highlighted what she was doing well and provided a solid game plan of what to work on next following the session. We had a great first session with Coach Douglyss for triple jump! He took the time to break down the components of the triple jump with my son and ran through several drills to practice each phase. By way of observation and video recording, Coach Douglyss was able to identify several areas where my son could improve and explained how his present form was impacting his results. He went on to offer suggestions on things to change and had my son practice these changes. We left the session with a clear plan of things to try, what to look out for, and ways to practice that are specific to this event. I am being coached by Coach Douglyss for long and triple jump, with more of a focus on triple. I always feel like I get a lot out of practicing with him. Taking video and watching it back allows a close look at my strengths and weaknesses as a jumper. At each practice we work on various drills to improve my technique, and he makes the very technical parts of jumps easy to grasp. He is always willing to modify the practices based on how tired I am/how my legs are feeling, and has helpful suggestions about training and resting. I would highly recommend training with him.
