More About Coach Dilian

Coach Dilian Donev currently holds a USSF License and is the head coach of 2 boys teams in the U10 and U12 age groups. He also assists the U18's and the transition to taking the collegiate step. Has extensive soccer and Academy camp experience in addition to being a WCSC certified coach. During his time down at UC Santa Barbara, for 2-years worked exclusive private training sessions with 2 Boys U14 Div 2 players, who have since gone on to play abroad in Germany, just finished their U18 Div 1 season as Cal South State Champs, and are heading back out abroad to play this summer. Seeing progress such as this in young athletes is what inspires coach Donev to continue sharing his knowledge with future generations. A firm believer in building a solid technical foundation.

Coach Donev was born in Ruse, Bulgaria where his passion for the game can be traced back to World Cup 1994, and Bulgaria’s remarkable run to 4th place. The soccer ball he received for his third birthday that summer instantly became his first love. Relocated to the Bay Area in 1999 at the age of 7, and only had his ball and self to train. A teacher spotted him training in the yard after school and enrolled in AYSO at the age of 11. Quickly progressing from playing 2 years up in competitive teams to joining Academy at age 15. His hometown professional team Dunav Ruse came calling with an invitation to play with the U16 team where he spent a successful summer. Coach Donev played soccer at Aragon High School, where he earned 2010 San Mateo County Boys Player of the year & Daily Journal player of the year honors. After HS seasons, he played with DV8 Soccer Club where they won three back-to-back championships, in addition, to playing in the US Open Cup. He played his collegiate soccer at West Valley College; then transferred to UCSB to play NCAA Division 1. It was his college summers where he spent time abroad training and playing professionally with FC Dunav Ruse & FC Dve Mogili in the Bulgarian 1st and 3rd Divisions.

2. Technique (Passing & Receiving, Dribbling & Faking, Guiding, Shooting)
3. Psycho-Motor: Basic Motor Schemes, Postural Schedmes, Senso-Perceptive Capacity, Pre-Acrobatic)
4. Speed, Agility, Quickness & Strength/Conditioning

•Providing structured organized sessions to help the individual youth players excel their strengths.
•Development plans to help youth reach potential.
•Monitor training levels so each player develops at a consistent rate.
•Session planning to produce the correct amount of psycho-motor, coordination, technical/tactical based training.
•Monthly recaps to reassure parents and players of progress/development

My husband and I were looking for a coach to help us improve our skills. I am a novice player and really needed help with the fundamentals. My husband is a goalkeeper and needed help with specific aspects of his game. Coach Dilian was willing to work with us both in the same sessions. He structured each training session to help us improve our general skills and then we break off to focus on our specific training needs. He does a great job of keeping the sessions moving and managing time. He is extremely positive, energetic, enthusiastic, and super motivating. He has a deep knowledge of the game and is constantly giving us little tips and tricks. In only three sessions, I have seen a marked improvement in both of our games. I highly recommend Coach Dilian.

Coach Dilian is a great, experienced and patient coach. My 14 year old daughter is new to the sport. She just had her first session with Coach Dilian today. He was very effective in explaining the key areas and rules of soccer to her. And he was great at starting her on the fundamentals of soccer. Coach Dilian was patient and supportive in the whole process. His drills and explanations all had a purpose and background. And his encouragement was really helpful to my daughter. We look forward to our next session with Coach Dilian very soon! I highly recommend Coach Dilian for anyone looking for an experienced and knowledgeable coach for soccer training and development!

Dilian is a natural with coaching kids. My 7 yo son just had his first session with Coach Dilian and LOVED it! He had very good drills and worked with my son on specific ball control skills that my son then used in his soccer game the next day -- it was so cool to see him use what he learned 24 hrs earlier from Coach D on the field -- and it worked! Everyone was talking about his fancy footwork. Most importantly, my son was super proud and extra confident. My son loved his session so much he asked if he could see Coach Dilian several times a week. Thank you, Coach D - we can't wait to work with you again!

Highly, highly recommend for any kid looking to improve their soccer skills. Coach Dilian is able to connect with your kid and really help them improve their skills. I'm shocked there was such an improvement after 1 session. Wow! This coach is the real deal.

My 13 yr old daughter plays competitive soccer. She had a lesson with Coach Dillian this past weekend. I was impressed with his desire to understand her skill set, and who she is as a player prior to the session. My daughter was impressed with the drills he set up for her that were challenging as well as fun! I highly recommend Coach Dillian!!!

My 13 yo daughter had a session with Coach Dilian yesterday. He was well-organized and prepared with many different drills. His energy level is on a 10! My daughter was a bit hesitant and Coach Dilian was great with lots of positive reinforcement and didn’t push too hard on something where she struggled. He gave feedback at the end of the session - which I really appreciated as a parent, and asked my daughter what she wanted to focus on. As soon as the session was over, my daughter said she wanted another session and she was so excited on the drive home about how much better of a player she can be with Coach Dilian’s help. I would recommend Coach Dilian without any hesitation to other soccer players wanting to improve their skills.

Coach Dilian is a very good coach. His method of teaching makes it easy to understand. In our first session he was able to understand my strong & weak points.He is very technical in his training approach and had some very nice shooting drills.He has drills for different skills and makes it a joy to understand & execute on the training plan.

Dilian taught me exactly what I needed to improve. His coaching style was great; he was very skilled, very clear in his instructions, he didn't watch the clock and gave me plenty of time to practice. Even though it was only the first session, I already feel more confident.

Dilian is a great coach that keeps you on your feet as long as tolerable to you. He thinks adaptovely to your specific goals and make sures to encorporate the fudementals at the same time. He does not use complicated fancy tools to teach which I personally prefer. Overall I like this coach and look forward to our sessions.

Really high energy, good training plan. My 7 and 9 year old club soccer boys can't wait to play with Coach Dillian each week, and then spend the rest of the week excited to kick the ball around the house to try out what he taught them.

Had an initial session for my 14U daughter with Coach Dillian last week. He was on time, professional, and ran a great one hour session. My daughter enjoyed the training and immediately came home to practice things learned in her training. We hope to continue using Coach Dilian on a regular basis. Five stars!!

Coach Dilian is exceptional - can't recommend him more highly. He is easy to communicate with, prepared, honed in on what my son needed to work on and also put him through some great drills. He established a rapport, my son liked him AND he pushed him to do his best in a firm but always good, humored and highly positive manner. My son just started Soccer, and needed to learn from the beginning. Dillon came very prepared and did a fantastic job coaching him on multiple aspects of the game in just the first lesson. He covered the fundamentals of moving the ball, proper kicking techniques, coordination exercises, how to position himself on the field, and when and how to move on another player. I was impressed with how much he did in one lesson. My son left feeling more confident and excited. Dillon was very positive and had a great rapport with my son. We will use him again.

Coach Dilian did a great job of coaching my 4-year-old son. It's a challenge to keep the attention of a boy that age but he proved to be creative and patient. Well done! Can't wait for the next lesson!
