More About Coach Davis
I have a variety of different experiences working in basketball. Most recently I was a Division I Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Idaho State University. Before working at Idaho State, I had a brief stint at NCAA Division II, Point Loma Nazarene University. In my one year at Point Loma, we went to the NCAA Division II National Championship Game and had the NCAA Division II National Player of the Year. While obtaining my Bachelor’s degree at Butler University, I worked with the men’s basketball program as a student manager. All four seasons at Butler we played in the NCAA March Madness Tournament.
In addition to my experience at the collegiate level, I also have over three years of experience coaching and training youth basketball kids and teams. I worked with 2nd graders all the way to seniors in high school while working for Primetime Basketball in Indianapolis, IN.
I have also spent time working with NBA skills trainers, Joey Burton and Jason Smeathers. While working with Joey and Jason, I assisted with workouts including NBA players Glenn Robinson iii, Gordon Hayward, Jae'sean Tate, and more.
I played basketball through high school in the Indianapolis metro area. I was recruited to some smaller collegiate programs to continue my playing career, but decided to attend Butler University to ultimately set myself up with a possible career as a college basketball coach. While working with the basketball team at Butler, I was a practice player and a member of the scout team.
I will tailor all of my workouts to the individual. Most clients that are younger should expect to focus on the all around fundamentals of the game of basketball (shooting, dribbling, footwork, passing, etc.) whereas high school clients would focus more on their development at the main positions they play on the court. I like to spend time focusing on perfecting your strengths but also becoming more comfortable with your weaknesses. I will train student athletes in situations that will allow them to become more comfortable making common reads that present themselves throughout the game.
Shooting is one of the main areas I will focus on because I am a firm believer that if you can’t shoot, at some point you can’t play!!!
