More About Coach David
I am currently a high school boys basketball coach and have also coached intramural and recreational teams as well as providing individual skill development training to players at all levels. What I enjoy most is teaching young players the fundamentals of basketball and having a positive impact on their lives, on and off the court. I’m an NFHS Certified Interscholastic Coach and accredited through the WIAA. I'm also a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Positive Coaching Alliance. For the past two years I have been ranked one of the Top 3 Coaches in Washington by CoachUp.
Basketball has been a big part of my life for over 30 years. I began at the center/power forward position and later transitioned to wing, so I'm personally familiar with what it takes to compete both in the post and on the perimeter. I've played at the collegiate level, and am currently active in the Puget Sound Basketball League.
The first step is an assessment of skills and areas to target for growth. This provides an opportunity to discuss player goals. Next, I assemble a practice plan consisting of age/skill-appropriate drills tailored to fit the player's individual needs and designed to be engaging, challenging, and applicable to what the player will encounter in games. Whether the emphasis is on ball-handling, footwork, shooting, defending, rebounding, moving without the ball, or any combination of these, I can help players expand and improve their game in all aspects, from technique to decision-making ability.
