More About Coach Darion "Coach Dee"

I have been an AAU coach with the Atlanta Playmakers Elite for the past 5 years; i've been training males at the high school level through semi-pro for the past 3 years. I train both privately one on one and group sessions.

I have played both collegiate (Cal State Hayward) and semi-pro level (IBL). My semi-pro days included a 2 year span with the San Diego Stingrays (IBL). Also a short stint in Australia with the Brisbane Grizzlies.

No matter what size player i am working with i emphasize on guard skills, mobility, and core strength. We start off directly in front of the rim and shoot with both our strength and off hands to develop a nice arc. We step back about 4 ft, and repeat our process eventually ending just in front of the free throw; we then move to either side of the power box and shoot bank shots with either hand. My philosophy is that everything evolves around muscle memory. I will then illustrate an effective 3 dribble pull up mid-range jumper; emphasizing the power dribble before release. We will then move on to the power dribble step back jumper; from there we will work on some penetrating moves starting off with tear-drop floaters approximately releasing from 3 ft out. Next i illustrate an effective euro-step and finally a spin lay up and jump shot. Once this stage of the workout is complete and their mechanics have been structured we move out to shooting beyond the arc. I start off with both corners having the athlete run from side to side and catch and shoot. This is done in 2 minute increments. Then we have them shoot from 5 primary shots around the arc watching for the fundamentals; if the feet are squared up, arm extension, wrist rotation. Next we implement some dribbling drills such as having the athlete dribble at 3 speeds. Starting with walking the ball up the floor into a light jog then approaching their attack spot and going into a speed dribble and attacking the rim. I do not tend to mix heavy core training on the same day but we do some light exercises with a resistance ball.

Client Reviews

Coach Dee has been working with me for about a year now and he has helped me gain exposure of a few DII college coaches. The workouts are strenuous but he keeps them fun and explains not only what we are working on but why we are working on it; and how it will benefit me in game time situations.
