2019-2020 - Most recently Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Mount Saint Mary College!
I have seven years of basketball coaching/training experience. I have worked with youth athletes from many different towns surrounding the West Hartford area! I have learned a lot while coaching at Trinity College (CT), Mount Saint Mary College (NY), interning at Syracuse University for the Men's Basketball team, as well as, volunteering at three USA Basketball coaching clinics. My passion is in developing young players and I'm fortunate to have worked at basketball camps all over such as: Philadelphia 76ers, UConn, Syracuse, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, U of Hartford, Providence, Boston College, Eastern/Central CT, Five Star (NY), Nike (CT), Wins 4 Life, IMG Academy (FL), etc. The age groups consist of 8-18 years old for both male/female and I have personally coached over 250 kids. I have always found at least one kid at every camp that wanted to improve on a skill during free time, and the improvement they made throughout the week was extremely rewarding for both of us!

I graduated in May 2017 from Newbury College in Brookline, MA where I played collegiate basketball and captained the team for two years. My greatest honor was being the recipient of the Male Athlete Sportsmanship Award three years in a row from our athletics department. Additionally, I was presented with the Scholar-Athlete award for having the highest GPA in the senior class for athletics. Played at Hall High School and served as starting point guard/captain senior year.

WE WILL GET BETTER TOGETHER AND SEE RESULTS! I will bring energy, encouragement, knowledge and positivity to each kid and instill confidence in them! Every player receives a print out of our first sessions drills and a motivational packet that we will discuss the second session. I have learned from some of the best basketball minds and am excited to share my knowledge with as many people as possible! I want to work with kids that will take what they learn from our session and work on their game until we meet again. Consistency is extremely important in order get better and I hope to motivate my clients beyond our time together.

First, I want to know the goals of the player/parent and what they want to work on. For example, they may want to work on dribbling, shooting and passing. I will construct the session so all of those skills are addressed and even combine all three if the ability is there. After the session, feedback is important to make sure the client has the best experience possible.

I am going into my sophomore year as a college player, and I was looking for someone to help fix any holes in my game and improve my game overall. I trained with Dan for the first time and he taught me many things about the game and drills that I can use to get better. After my workout, I was drenched in sweat and knew that the work I did would help me improve my game. I Highly recommend to work with Dan, one session with him can change your game and confidence.

Definitely would recommend Coach Dan to others. Met my child at his level and kept him motivated through individual drills. Showed a great understanding of fundamentals and looking forward to the next session.

My 11 year old son had his first lesson with Coach Dan and absolutely loved it and enjoyed himself! He couldn’t stop talking about the session on the way home. He said he already learned things just in one session. Coach Dan was fantastic with him, connecting with him on a personal level as well as basketball. He can’t wait for his next session! I would highly recommend Coach Dan to anyone looking to help improve their son’s or daughter’s basketball skills.

My son had a great experience with Coach Dan today! He made my son feel very comfortable on the floor and asked my son what he wanted to improve on and that's how the session was tailored. It was an all-around success and we have already booked a package with Dan. I can't wait to see how much further he could grow with him.

My son is entering his junior season of high school and has now had a series of workouts with Coach Horwitz. After assessing his abilities during their first workout together, Dan fine tuned the next practice sessions to include working on both identified strengths and weaknesses. Coach Horowitz has been a great motivator and my son’s enthusiasm is sky high for continued improvement in his game prior to this upcoming season. I highly recommend Coach Horwitz for assistance in improving your game!

I was thrilled with the level of preparedness Coach Dan arrived with the very first day of my son’s training with him; he had a hard copy of different skills and plays that he intended to go through within the hour and that he intended him to practice @ home... they went through a series of these and he helped with showed him the postures that would help to get each skill correct. I also noticed that endurance building was coupled with almost every skill! It took little to NO time for the two to gel and for my son to relax and acclimatize... I can wait for my son to get back on the court with him because I know he will learn a lot!!

Dan is a great coach. He worked with my son for a couple sessions and my son has improved a lot working with Dan. He is very patient and fun to work with. Dan is a very professional and I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to play basketball at a high level. I’m really pleased with him.

Giving coach dan 5 stars as my child requested to do so! He loved the sección and can’t wait to go back! As for my opinion and a true baller most of my young life! THE COACH KNOWS HIS STUFF! Great teaching knowledge, something we don’t have! Great drills and work outs! Looking forward to book a multiple sección package

Coach Dan is very motivating!! I really enjoyed the session and would recommend anyone to coach Dan. Thank you!

Coach Dan is an excellent motivator and teacher of the sport. He provides useful direction and is a great communicator.

It was evident from our first session that Coach Dan is invested in his players. Prior to the lesson, he took the time to determine my daughter's personal goals. During her session, he was prepared and didn't waste any time. He covered ball handling, shooting & agility all in the hour time. Very glad we found him and will definitely continue to work with him.

Very helpful would recommend for anyone

Coach Dan Was a Great Coach.

Just had me first session with Coach Dan, and it was way better than I could have expected. I already feel way better about the aspects of the game I said I needed to work on. He's a fantastic coach, and really worked to develop a session, before and during it, that would help me the most. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a basketball trainer.

Coach Dan has been working with my 16 year old son for the past month, and has done a wonderful job. He has helped my son with the physical and mental aspects of his game. Dan's workouts have helped with ball handling as well as my son's shot. With Dan's academic success in college, he has acted as a role model for my son, he has gone above and beyond what we expected from a private coach. My son looks forward to every workout, we have signed up for another month, I would highly recommend Dan for any age and skill level, he is not only a great coach, but also a great guy.

Coach Dan is amazing. He far exceeded my expectations as a parent. I am excited to see my son progress with Coach Dans help. He is a great player but more importantly, he is a great teacher, as well. I would recommend Coach Dan to anyone who is serious about taking their game to the next level.

My son just had his first coaching session with Dan and he can't wait for his next one. Dan focused on not just the physical aspects of the game, but the mental as well. He gave my son great advice on how to improve his shooting, dribbling, passing, lay ups, and his defense. He provided him with handouts to review before their next coaching session. He is very enthusiastic and approachable....a great person to work with kids! We highly recommend him!

Very well prepared. Kept my son busy the entire lesson and provided him with at-home drills. His passion for the games shows through his instruction. Highly recommended.

I emphatically recommend coach Dan Horwitz! He worked with my son in two formal sessions and my young player learned so much. Dan stresses the physical skills need to succeed, but also the mental ones, too. He teaches teamwork, focus and good sportsmanship. My son was so enthusiastic to play more basketball after his coaching sessions with Dan. The best thing about Dan is that he is patient, and a great motivator who gives you 100% of his attention. On a side note, Dan knows basketball so well and loves the sport so much, I brought him to the TV station where I work to do some analysis during the NCAA tournament. He nailed it!
Dan is the best around. As a high school basketball coach, I cannot recommend him highly enough. It's incredibly rare that you find a coach who both cares as much about each student as he does, and who is as impactful with those who are brand new to the game, as he is with advanced players who are getting ready to make an impact on their high school or college teams. I have seen it time and time again working with him and he will without a doubt make an overwhelmingly positive impact on your child's confidence and ability both on and off the court.
I just wanted to let you know I had so much fun this summer at 76ers camp! I want to thank you for not just making me a better basketball player but a better person on and off the court. You taught me how to be a leader. I’ve been taking in your advice. I got called up to Varsity for basketball, we went far but unfortunately we lost in sectional championship. I had to step up in big moments and I felt pretty prepared because I put in the work in the summer with help from you. Thank you!
Having watched Dan as a player, it is no surprise seeing his competitive energy translate into the coaching profession. Dan's knowledge of the game is amongst the best in the industry, but his dedication to always further knowledge is what is most impressive. Most importantly, Dan treats his player's like family, developing not only basketball skills, but high character people as well.
