More About Coach Cory

I am the founder and head coach of an international online coaching business called Run Your Personal Best which has helped 100's of runners from over 7 countries achieve personal bests.

I pride myself on being one of the most accessible and effective personal running coaches. I have been involved with running for over 20 years and my expertise is derived from personal experiance as a nationally ranked runner and exposure to world-class coaches and professional athletes. My resume includes high school and college coaching, private coaching, 2-Time NCAA D1 Nationals Qualifier, and a personal best of 4:03 in the mile and 8:06 3k.

My running experience and expertise has given me the opportunity to appear on 6abc Philadelphia and have been quoted in The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Magazine, philly.com, active.com and Mens Journal. I am a regular running columnist for Philadelphia Magazine's Be Well Philly.

I am a USA Track & Field Level 2 Certified Coach that started guiding athletes when I co-founded Villanova Elite, a running club providing support to post-collegiate distance runners. As club founder, I helped guide several of their athletes to multiple personal bests. Today, along with being the Founder and Head Coach of Run Your Personal Best, LLC, I'm also the Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach at Penn State Brandywine, an official coach of The American Cancer Society and former high school cross country coach at William Penn Charter. I am also CPR/AED/First Aid certified.

I have experience coaching:
- Elite runners training for a Olympic Trials bid
- Novice runners who want to complete their first race
- FBI, Police, Air Force and Navy Special Ops training for PT Tests
- Runners who want a PR in the mile, 5k, 8k, 5 mile, 10k, 1/2 marathon and marathon
- College & High School level cross country/track runners

I first entered the national running scene in high school, where I qualified for the National Cross Country Championships and earned a spot as one of the top 25 cross country runners in the US. As a member of the track & field team, I held three Maryland State records and finished my high school career with the 6th fastest 2 mile in the US.

Following high school, I attended Villanova University where I was consistently a top performer earning multiple spots in Regional Championships including two at the NCAA Division 1 National Championships. My collegian accomplishments are:

• 2-Time NCAA Division 1 National Championship Qualifier
• 2-Time NCAA Division 1 All Mid-Atlantic Honors
• 8-Time NCAA Division 1 Track & Field Regionals Qualifier
• 2-Time Villanova Team Captain

My number one goal is helping you accomplish your goal. Whatever your goal might be, I'll work with you to develop a plan to help you reach that goal.

1) Monthly Coaching - I'll design a custom running program specifically targeted for your goal, update it weekly and adjust the training plan as needed using one of best coaching software programs. You will receive daily email or text reminders of that days workout as well as have a record of all the hard work you've completed. I'll also help you develop strength and form by teaching you form drills and strength exercises to make you a better runner.

2) For those looking to take their training to the next level I offer Physiological Testing with results interpretation and application to training. Used by the one of the top NCAA Division 1 colleges in the country and PA's best high school teams and individuals, blood lactate profiling is the best way to identify opportunities for improvement and target specific training paces to improve.

3) Custom packages - You tell me what you need and I'll design it.

I have never worked with a running coach before. I was lacking in motivation and have found that working with Cory has helped to restore my love of running. I like the fact that he sets my schedule for me and keeps me guessing as to what awaits me running wise next week. He answers my questions in a timely manner. So fat a great experience!

Cory is invested in his athletes and beliefs; he thoughtfully replies in a timely manner and backs up his statements with his own beliefs and educational background. He is invested and reliable.

I spent a day with Cory. He is very easy to work with and very knowledgeable. I look forward to getting back out there again with him.

I signed on with Coach Cory because of his experience (both prior and current) working with Senior runners. He has only been working with me a short time, so it's too early to form an opinion. So far, so good.

My husband has been working with Coach Cory for about 10 months and his form, distance and enjoyment of running has grown tremendously. Coach Cory is very knowledgeable and ensures his clients are reaching their potential.

Cory is very quick with responses and feedback. He makes you feel like your goals are his goals as well and is invested in them. He encourages you to leave feedback and be involved which definitely motivates me through training.

I just finished my first month. Coach Cory is the real deal. Always has great feed back and takes it beyond running. He encompasses everything that you need to do to be a great runner. He always responds quickly to my workouts and questions. Highly recommend!

Coach Cory worked with my son over the summer in an effort to bring his 5k time down to give my son a chance to make varsity his junior year in high school. My son enjoyed working with cory and cory answered all my text messages in a timely manner. While i have no doubt that Cory has helped runners both young and old achieve their goals, he was not able to help my son improve his 5k time after over 3 months of consistent training.

"Coach Cory is an amazing instructor!! In seven weeks, I accomplished my goal of running my first 1/2 marathon. He created my personal run program. Cory used my Garmin data and perceived effort of exertion as a guide while infusing motivational tips along the way. Every week was different with building mileage and increasing effort. Cory has communicated with me by phone, text, and email promptly throughout the program. He was always available and enthusiastically answered my questions. I will definitely use him again. "

I gave Cory an aggressive challenge in Jan 2015 to get a non-runner ready to complete the 10 mile Broad St Run on 5/3/15. Cory worked with my 12-hr rotating work shift schedule and got me ready. To celebrate my 50th B-day, this year, I successfully completed the Broad St. Run!!

I have had a great experience working with Cory. He looked at my previous training logs and identified areas where I could improve upon. He modified my workouts and helped me with my recovery. In March I ran a 16:28 for the 5k. I felt tired both physically and mentally. By mid-April I ran 15:58 for the 5k. I had been trying unsuccessfully to break 16 for a while. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without Cory’s help.

Cory is very quick to respond to questions, and will check in with you to make sure things are going well. He works with you around your schedule and will help you adjust if anything unexpected pops up. He is personable and approachable. I have worked with other coaches in the past and this has been the best experience by far.

I've been a runner for a long time. I've read a lot about different training techniques, and I've experimented with different ideas, but I could never quite get myself to become the runner I wanted to be. I finally decided to work a coach for the first time about twelve weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Cory is knowledgeable, encouraging, and very responsive, and has helped me train smarter, have more fun, and become more motivated than I've ever come close to achieving on my own.

Cory is really supportive and encouraging. I appreciate his focus on making sure I'm training smart and healthy in addition to pushing myself. Cory's easy to get in contact with and I really like the program he's put together for me so far! I'm hoping to crush this year's race season.

Coach Cory responds quickly and is very knowledgeable. He helps create a plan based on where you are and what your goals are. After one workout I am already feeling like a more confident runner.

Coach Cory is very knowledgeable, and a great coach all around. I've seen dramatic improvements in my run times, and overall fitness. Cory will improve your run time for any distance, or level of fitness, and has my highest recommendation!

(Using my brother's words as this was a gift for him): Cory was extremely personable, easy to talk to, and a great trainer. We have completed only one session together so far, but I am looking forward to the rest of our sessions in preparation for an upcoming marathon in February.

Within just 2 weeks, Coach Cory significantly helped me lower my run time. He's prompt, professional, and very friendly; he went out of his way to help me achieve a goal that seemed near impossible. I highly recommend Coach Cory to anyone who wants to become a better, stronger runner.

Cory is an amazing coach! He tailors my workout to fit my needs and provides daily workouts, support and availability. He's attentiveness has helped me gain confidence and improve my running!

Cory is a fantastic coach. He works hard to figure out what you are looking for and is willing to do whatever it takes to help you reach your goals.

Your assistance has been incredibly beneficial for my development as a runner
I started working with Cory right after the Broad Street Run in 2014 with my 10M pace at 7:52. With his coaching I had my best per mile race pace ever at the Charles Street 12 Miler in Baltimore of 7:25 just a short 2 and a half months later placing 91st out of 1,747 with an overall time of 1:28:57. Our weekly contact and fresh training plans kept my workouts from getting boring and added depth to me just “going out and running”. There is no doubt, his influence over my training has elevated my game tremendously.
Thanks so much for the advice, it was dead on!
Cory prepared a running plan for my wife and I based on our schedules, endurance level, and preferred way to train. We're 2/3 of the way through training for Broad Street and I've never felt better running...
Cory developed a training program for me for the 10 mile broad street run in May. Prior to starting the program, I wasn't running more than 2 miles consecutively and in just 3 weeks in I'm running 5 straight with record times. The program he put together is just what I needed, fits in with my schedule, offers variety to keep me engaged and forces me to challenge myself, yet keeps me motivated! I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to push themselves, he knows just how to do it!
Cory is a very approachable coach. He is detailed oriented, always responsive, and really knows his stuff. I can’t emphasize enough how available and responsive that he is to all of his athletes.
