More About Coach Clint
I spent one full season as the catching coordinator for the Miami Marlins where I was in charge of creating and executing the development plans for each catcher in the organization at every level. I had the pleasure that season to work with a few catchers that ended up getting themselves to the big leagues, including Phillies star J.T. Realmuto. I have experience in private lessons at all ages as well as experience in working larger group camps and training.
3 year starting catcher at the University of Georgia, starting as a freshman and continuing until I was drafted after my junior year after reaching the final four of the College World Series. I was named a freshman All-American in 2002, and also was selected to play for both the USA Junior National Team in 2001 after my senior year in high school, and then the USA Collegiate National Team in 2002. I competed in the Cape Cod Summer League after my sophomore year where I was selected for the CCBL All-Star Game. I was fortunate to be drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 6th round in 2004. I was named the Rome Braves single A player of the year in 2005, and led the Southern League (AA) in caught stealing percentage in 2007, throwing out 48% of would be base stealers. I played parts of 3 seasons with the Major League club from 2007-2009. Overall I played 9 seasons of professional baseball, 7 seasons in the Braves organization and 2 with the Marlins.
My plan, depending on age and skill level, will focus heavily on working the fundamentals of receiving, blocking, and throwing. I am a firm believer that if you focus strongly on being as fundamentally sound as you can be in your training/practice, it allows you the freedom to be an athlete on the field without thinking of those fundamentals because you have engrained those fundamentals in your brain and muscle memory will take over. Other areas, including fielding bunts and tag plays will also be addressed, as will the mental side of becoming a successful catcher. While the fundamentals don't change, the program can be tailored based on age, skill level, etc.
