More About Coach Christopher

I've been coaching and playing basketball my entire life. I've worked high school, collegiate, and NBA basketball camps for many years. I spent two years as an assistant at the high school level.

B.A. in Family and Child Development- Southern Virginia University (2009)

Master's of Sports Science with an emphasis in Coaching and Sports Management- The United States Sports Academy (2013)

Chris has traveled the world to play the game he loves. He has described basketball as his, “Magnificent Obsession.” This game means everything to him.

One of the greatest compliments he received was from the coach of The West Texas Whirlwinds. The coach said, “If there was a game on the moon, Chris Jones would find a way to get there and play.”

Chris has played in Australia, Mexico, and looks forward to upcoming tours to Greece and Spain. He has seen most of the United States and met the most amazing people through basketball. He has been exposed to all types of religions, cultures, and ethnicity. Basketball has changed his life and given him opportunities that he would have never had.

Chris has had the opportunity to train at the Olympic Facility in Melbourne, Australia. He was won an NCAA Division I, Provisional National Championship (2003-2004). Chris has also won basketball camp MVP s. He considers himself the ultimate gym rat.

He has lived in amazing hotels, cottages, and multi-million dollar mansions. He has also slept on wood floors, bunk beds, and driven 36 hours across county to get to his next game in 48 hours.

Chris has learned so much about the game of basketball from the various coaches and teams he has played on throughout his college and professional career. The coaches that he has learned the most from and played for are; Coach Dick Hunsaker and Coach Condie (Utah Valley University), Coach Don Chamberlain (Southern Virginia University), Coach Chris Terrell (Las Vegas Summer Pro Camp), Cleveland Phelps (ABA-West Texas Whirlwinds) and Kevin Franklin (UBA-Team Havok).

This will be his 5th year of pro ball in the ABA, with a short stint in the UBA

The first session will be a general workout, designed to asses the players skill level, areas of strength and weakness, and developing an individualized skill plan for the remaining sessions. We will determine player goals and what they hope to accomplish out of these sessions.

I am also adding mental coaching online or by phone as an option. So many of the kids I run into struggle with performance anxiety and stress. When I was younger, that was my biggest problem. I was obsessed with the game and wanted it so bad, I got in my own way. That's one of the reasons I wanted to get my degree in coaching that had a large focus on sports psychology. That will be an option we can talk about if interested.

I believe fundamentals are the key to success in life. It's the little things in everything that count. All great players have a grasp of the fundamentals.

Here is a list of the basic fundamentals that will be incorporated into players individualized sessions; short, mid-range, long-range, and free throw shooting. Offensive post moves from both blocks with either hand and footwork.

I can break down fundamental play from any position PG, SG, SF, PF, or C. We will work on one-on-one offensive moves, being aggressive, wanting the ball, triple-threat position, and physical conditioning.
