More About Coach Christopher

I started coaching coed youth basketball in 2016 at Beuf Community Center in Phoenix, AZ. I coached the 9-10 age group for four consecutive seasons before transitioning to the 11-12 age group for Deer Valley Community Center. Next, I coached for a few years before transitioning to the 13-15 age group. Finally, I credit a lot of my patience and experience to Park and Recreation. There I was able to find myself as a coach, and trainer, which I started in 2018 and have been doing to date. I've trained players from middle to high school and recently started teaching kids as young as seven. Every kid has a starting point for their basketball journey, and I pride myself on providing the proper tools and training to make that journey meaningful. All-in-all, I'd love the opportunity to welcome you to the program officially.

As a freshman in HS, I had the opportunity of playing all three levels (Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity). I played Junior Varsity basketball my sophomore year and Varsity my junior and senior year of HS. I also participated in Track & Field, where I competed in the High Jump, Long Jump, and sometimes the Triple Jump. I was a natural athlete that devoted my time to being the best I could be at any sport I played, but my love for basketball took me away from all other sports.

Analyze Strengths and Weakness - The first session is usually my gauge to see what things you are capable of doing. I will ask the player to do a few drills, such as pounding the ball two times, then driving to a specified location on the court, where I will ask them to give me a finishing technique, whether shooting or attacking the basketball. I will then ask the player to do a few drills centered around the core strengths basketball players typically use while playing. I will explain that core technique and demonstrate the process, so the player can visualize what is being asked.

Once I have gathered all the information, the next session is where we start to dive further into the core techniques of player development. We dive into our "Drop" technique, "Pocket" technique, "Dribble Step" technique, etc. We talk about "Dribble Step Timing" and how it all ties into our pocket, dribble step and drop. Once the foundation has been laid, I will skill stack as we proceed. I train each individual the same, from young kids to young adults, to a grown adults.

I package everything we do into some finishing skill, specifically shooting. I understand the value of shooting, so much of what is done is followed up with shooting, whether it be a quick dribble pull-up, step-back, side-step, misdirection, etc. All-in-all, I try to make each session an experience that will make each player want to return for more. My primary goal is to provide each player with the necessary attention to detail that will allow that player to grow after each session.

Awesome Coach, my son looks forward for more training with coach Christopher!

Chris is an excellent coach. He is very skilled in the mechanics of basketball. He is an excellent communicator. He does a very good job of showing you where you need to improve. My grandson Tristan has improved tremendously under his instruction. Chris is just one of our favorite people.

Chris exceeded my expectations even on the first private session for my 7 years old son. After going through a few coaches and teams, I realized how special and gifted coach he is. Attention to details and precision makes huge differences in basketball, yet I had not found coach’s who are capable to teach that to my son. He is the real deal!

Great coach! Was patient with my almost 8yo son who is VERY beginner. Talked him through different drills in ways he could understand, and supported him positively the whole way!

Coach Christopher is awesome. Period. Attention to fundamentals, conditioning and the mental part of the game.

Very versed, passionate and has great communication skills, with the student and the parents.
Thank you Coach Chris

Thorough, enthusiastic, engaging

Coach Christopher was a great coach. After one session my son felt more confident and more motivated . I recommend coach Christopher to anyone who is looking for professional training .

Coach Christopher made our son want to get better and learn what he needed to change. He was supportive while helping him become the athlete he wants to be.

Despite never playing organized team sports, our son wants to join his middle school basketball team. He attended a pre-season practice, which he described as “humiliating” due to his lack of skills. He was too embarrassed to attend the next practice, but still wants to play this spring season. Thankfully we found Coach Chris. Our son is shy and lacks confidence. He was worried about embarrassing himself again, but immediately felt comfortable with Chris. We see dramatic improvement after each session. In addition to helping him develop basketball skills, we have noticed an improvement in his coordination and posture after just a few training sessions with Chris. We also notice an improvement in overall self-confidence. I highly recommend Chris.

Coach Johnson has been instrumental in KJ's growth. He's coached and trained him since he was 9 years old and continues to support his dream of achieving his hoop goals. You can't go wrong with someone that LOVES basketball and every aspect of it.

Coach Chris is an amazing coach! Coach Chris is all about fundamentals and teaching young children how to appreciate the game of basketball! Our daughters have learned so much from in in only a few weeks.

Another fantastic session!!! Chris is the best you will find guaranteed!!!

Chris Johnson is an excellent coach. He knows how to inspire kids of all ages and gives them the tools they need to grow in the game they love.

Always great training session glad he is back with your training.

Coach Johnson has been an influential coach to our daughter. When she was finding her way through basketball, he taught her skills that made her love the game. He is amazing with fundamental training. He is patient yet continues pushing the kids to reach their potential. We are so grateful for him and for the love and care he gave our daughter. She is where she is because of what he taught her years ago.
If you are searching for the absolute best basketball trainer in the state, I have done all the research for you. Chris Johnson is by far the best you will find! Both of my boys have trained for many years with Chris. Their progress over the years in terms of skill and ability is phenomenal. But not only have they gained skills, but they have also learned commitment, hard work, dedication, and how to balance and control their emotions and gain self-confidence, allowing them to flourish on the court. Chris works with kids of all ages. My oldest is in high school but started training with Chris at about 10. My now ten-year-old started training with Chris a couple of years ago. His patience and commitment to the young kids are above and beyond. My son often gets extremely frustrated when he can’t get a skill or drill immediately. Chris will always stop him, talk to him about not only the drill but the goal at hand and what they are trying to accomplish, and then finishes by building his self-esteem by explaining the level of skill he is learning are the same skills he teaches his high schoolers. My son is then not only calm but confident to continue the drill. As you can see, I absolutely cannot say enough about the high level of training and personal growth my kids have and continue to get with Chris. So again, if you’re looking for the best, Chris is it.
Chris Johnson is an amazing coach. I’ve seen the progress with both of my grandsons. I have also seen work that he’s done with some of Logan‘s friends and he truly got a gift. If your child wants to play basketball make sure they joined the program.
We have followed Chris Johnson for over a decade, and all three of our children have been trained and coached by him. We have watched him coach children from the 6-7 age level, all the way to high school seniors. His coaching has led him to the championship after championship, and he takes the time for personal one-on-one skills training for anyone who wants it. Chris has a way of reaching youth and honing skill sets that are rarely seen from good quality coaching, and the results show in a student's development. You won't be sorry to have Chris Johnson train your student!
To whom it may concern, it's with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Chris Johnson ( The Program) training, we had our son work with Chris for 2-3 years, and my son has improved each year making drastic changes in his game, I support and recommend ( The Program) services to any athlete wanting to improve their game and gain the hidden gems of the game.
Coach Chris has been working with our son for about a year now. Our son absolutely loves working with him and always looks forward to practice. Coach has always been very motivating while teaching and maintains a very positive attitude. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a Coach to build your child's skills and increase their confidence.
