More About Coach Chris

I have a wide range of head, assistant and volunteer coaching experience at multiple levels including: youth, middle school, high school, and junior college levels. I have enjoyed coaching boys and girls for more than 25 years. I have been recognized as a College Conference Coach of the Year - Wisconsin Collegiate Conference and High School Conference Coach of the Year - Ridge and Valley Conference. I am not currently coaching anywhere. Last year I served as the Head Coach of the Varsity Reserve and Assistant Varsity Coach at Richland Center High School Girls Basketball. Previously, I served as a 4-year Varsity Assistant for Richland Center High School Boys. I have the WIAA Coaching Education Program Certification from American Sport Education Program.

I had very successful high school and college careers. I served these teams as a starter and captain. In addition, I had the great privilege of trying out for the 1988 United States Olympic team. While I did not make the team, I was honored to be among some of the very best women's basketball players in the country.
I played college basketball for NAIA National Coach of the Year, John Klein at Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS. I was a four-year starter at the NAIA Division 1 / NCAA Division 2 University. During my career, the team was on a steady incline and won the NAIA National Championship the year after I graduated. I played both forward and center positions. My college career stats include: 1321 points, 901 rebounds, 147 steals, and 64 blocked shots. I earned All-Conference recognition 4 years and All District 10 NAIA Recognition my senior season.
In high school, I played for WBCA Hall of Fame Coach, Ron Donahoe (524 - 243) at Ithaca High School, Richland Center, WI. During my career, our teams went 87-7. We played in two sectional final and one sectional semi-final game. My high school career statistics: 1415 points, 1043 rebounds, 114 assists, 343 steals, 173 blocked shots. I earned All-Ridge and Valley Conference honors 3 years, AP All State honors one year, and Wisconsin State Journal All-Area honors one year. I was a WBCA All-Star.

Athletes can count on learning and improving specific techniques designed to help them meet their basketball goals and dreams. They can expect to have an honest assessment of their skills and a customized plan created to address and improve deficiencies and to enhance and strengthen skills they already have. I will also talk with them about how to be a better teammate and how to be valuable to any coach. In a typical session, we will work on your plan. Sessions can include: footwork, foot speed, hands and ball control, ball handling, getting open and calling for the ball, receiving the ball and offensive moves, shooting, boxing out and rebounding, seeing the floor and passing, and defense.

Coach Drea is the most influential coach I have ever played for. Her love and passion for the game of basketball is out of this world. As a former player both in high school and grade school, I will tell you she will get the best out of you. Coach Drea knows when to encourage and when to challenge players. Her best attribute as a coach, I would say, is being able to teach the game of basketball and get her players to understand. I would no doubt in my mind send anyone who wanted to improve tremendously at the game of basketball to Coach Drea.
It wasn't long after I met Chris Drea that I realized she was not only a great lady but a great coach. Some words that come to mind that describe her are hard working, understanding, smart, sincere, compassionate, a little demanding, considerate, fair, a team member, and a team builder. If I had a daughter I would want her being coached by Chris. Our young athletes need someone like Chris as not only their coach but their friend. Everyone needs a friend like Chris as I do and consider myself fortunate.
As a student-athlete I've had numerous coaches in my career, but no one quite like Coach Drea. She is not only knowledgeable in the game of basketball, but also in working with young individuals. I only had Coach Drea for one year, but it was definitely one of my most memorable. For, it was the year I established myself as a basketball player. She allowed me to find my potential, and even go beyond my limitations. Coach Drea is patient, encouraging, enthusiastic, and her knowledge and expertise on basketball is phenomenal. Her passion for the sport shines through with everything she does, and I firmly believe that anyone who has ever had the pleasure of working with her is truly lucky. Thanks Coach Drea for everything you do! Jordan Cockroft University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire Kinesiology Major UWEC Women's Fastpitch
Coach Drea has a tremendous passion for coaching youth. She excels in individual, and small group, settings by teaching the finer points of game in language and terminology that every young adult can understand. I firmly believe that often times there is a 'communication gap' between what coaches say and what athletes hear. Coach Drea's excellent combination of communication skills and basketball expertise allows athletes a great opportunity to learn from one of the area's best coaches.
When I was a sophomore in High School, I met an incoming freshman basketball player at an open gym. He was a very tall, stocky kid that had a lot of potential. We started talking and had gotten to know each other quite well, after all, we would be playing together sooner or later for our High School basketball team. I remember shooting around with him and remember telling myself he had such a smooth follow-through and was pretty advanced for a freshman. I wondered where he had learned how to play. His mother, Chris Drea was at the open gyms with him and his brother. I found out that she was a very good athlete in High School and in college. One of the sports she was outstanding at was basketball. When Coach Drea would come to the open gyms she would help her sons on fundamentals and to improve, but wasn’t just favoring her own kids. She would help me and other players on things they needed to work on or point out things that were working for them. I am a year older than her son and I am out on the court standing at a whopping 5 feet 4 inches tall. At first, I thought she would think I was too short to play basketball like everybody else, but right from the start she had faith in me. She didn’t look at physical attributes when it came to players; she looked at how individuals can improve in what areas they are good at. The result from putting aside my height was that I gained confidence and encouragement to be the best I could be and to never give up, game in and game out. Coach Drea is sincere and passionate about basketball. She is a great mentor, listener, human being, motivator, teacher, and coach, whom is there to help make athletes like myself better at what they do. The experience I had gained from meeting Chris Drea at that open gym was great, and I could not be more thankful for what she has taught me about the game of basketball. Little did I know I was gaining more than just a friend, I gained confidence, experience, knowledge, a mentor and even a friend from that day forward. I would personally recommend Coach Drea to any athlete that needs a mentor to direct them in the right direction, that wants knowledge of the game and that wants someone who is willing to put in time and effort to make kids better, and to get to teach what she loves so much, Basketball!
I may have only had Coach Drea for one year, but she was by far the best coach I’ve ever had. Her love of the game inspired me to try my hardest and have confidence in myself. Her ability to demonstrate new skills and techniques brought me and my teammates to a new level. She helped me grow as a player and as a person. Her leadership motivates me to be the best that I can be for myself and for others. She has been my role model since day one and I only hope that I can be someone as great as her one day.
