I am a private instructor in close-quarters-combat and reality-based self defense.

I began my martial arts journey in Shaolin Kung Fu. However, very quickly I became disillusioned by "traditional martial-arts" due to their contrived (false) reality in training and their overall impracticality for real-world encounters. That dissatisfaction put me on the path to find what skills were really necessary for use in the real world, where violence is unpredictable and chaotic.

I train individuals to utilize situational awareness, de-escalation techniques and when required, instinctual, gross-motor, non-patterned defensive and offensive methods for the real-world (urban combat: both unarmed and armed).

NOTE 1: I only instruct male clients aged 18 and older.

Contrary to what most martial-arts teachers will tell you, you actually only need 7 techniques to defend yourself effectively. But, martial arts and combat sports fill your head with hundreds of techniques. And, while you may be able to perform their fancy, intricate techniques with willing partners in a well-lit room with padded floors, in the real world you simply do not have rules, pads or time to react: you only have 1/4 second to identify a threat and take action.

The 7 foundational techniques you will learn in your sessions are:

Edge of hand
Heel of hand
Hammer fist
Foot Stomp
Driving knee
Low Front kick
Low Side kick

These handful of techniques are simple and don't require a lot of time to master and make use of your core strength (they're also the ones that have been proven to work in the shortest amount of time and under severe stress).

For those looking for more than basic instruction, I can design and provide customized training in a variety of intermediate and advanced concepts and tactics for personal, family and home defense.
