More About Coach Charles

I have been running for five years. I started to improve my overall health and fitness. I started out running the full marathon, and learned that this is not the ideal way to start, but have including that one completed three full marathons and nine half marathons, and what seems to be countless five Ks.

During this time I have lost over fifty pounds, improved my health and run cross country at Gateway Community College on scholarship. I have also run at two Grand Canyon State Games. My half-marathon PR is 1:28:44.

With my background in counseling and psychology, I have a strong knowledge of human motivation and experience in counseling and coaching through my work with FaithFit. I have also completed the USATF fundamentals of coaching track and field course. I am eager to share what I have learned over the past five years with you and work together to help you attain your goals in running.

I have a PR in the half of 1:28:44 and plan to break this PR in December with a goal time of 1:22, at this point I am on track to do this. Additionally I have a 5k PR of 18:18 and likely could have been better, but my focus has been both scattered and more on the longer half-marathon distance. I have not competed in a full-marathon in a few years, and have found that I prefer the half-distance for the time being.

At the beginning of the workout there would be a warmup period suitable to the athletes goals. I like to make sure that the athlete is well-rounded so some focus will be give to functional strength through some plyometric work and dynamic stretching. Then the core of the run workout would be done, what ever the goal is for the day (speed/tempo/distance/hills) whatever is appropriate. Then finally a cool-down light run, and stretching.
